Rolex AD Vancouver
So, I went in search of a hulk and to my surprise there's one sitting there in the case! Tried it on and said I'll take it, then 2 strange things happened:
1. They said I had to buy a second watch in order to buy the hulk (because of their popularity); and 2. They insisted on telling me that they had received mail today confirming that the Sea Dweller has been discontinued. Not sure why she told me the later.. Anyways, walked out without and watch and will stick to HK AD's in the future! Cheers |

See another thread I just posted titled "AD Games", seems like you're not the only one who experienced this.

I would have been asking for the manager. If that is truly the case, I'm flabbergasted!

I'd have been livid to say the least, and to this point, have had nothing but good experiences in all AD transactions/interactions. Even where many have said they've had terrible service. But if an AD tries to talk a consumer (me) into buying a second watch just for the privilege of buying the first, my back is going to Curl! Unacceptable!

This is really a case of someone starting a business who has no business running a business, nor having the money they had to open the business in the first place.
These silly "buy one watch for the privilege to buy another" games are purely because they want to up their #'s, meet their quota, make Rolex happy, and get more and more allocations. What they don't realize is it's short term gains at the expense of long term relationships. I'll spend $100k with you over the years if you treat me well. But force me to buy one watch I didn't want now in order to get the other watch I really wanted (now)? You'll never get my business again, and that's *if* I even do go through with it. |

Sounds like Yelp, Google, and Facebook reviews are in order.
It's worked with car dealerships (who also happen to exhibit similar stupid behaviors) -- GM's do notice. |

Good for you to walk away... You can almost buy a hulk anywhere... not that hard to get. Making you buy something else for the privilege of buying a hulk?? very interesting policy |

The staff must have received instructions to push customers to buy more by implementing such ridiculous policies. It's the 2nd post today about that particular AD.

Could Rolex really approve of this high handed behavior. It makes them look like swine. To intimidate a customer, with money ready to spend, by adding to the price of an expensive watch, by demanding that you buy a watch you don't want, just for the "right" to get the watch you do want is complete crap. Even if I wanted and could afford two watches, I wouldn't patronize a dealer that acted that way.

Anxious to see how Rolex responds to such behavior.

I probably would have said, "Ok, great, I'll take a Daytona C then." And waited for the reaction.
Seriously though, that's such poor form on the AD's part. |

It is a privilege for the AD to get my business not the other way around. I make that clear before I establish a relationship.

The real issue is that this particular store is a Rolex Boutique, not an ad!!

A lot of foreign money has been coming into Vancouver over the past few years and this has caused the real estate prices to increase at a dramatic rate so much so that the government has had to step in and add a foreign buyers tax to cool down the housing market. Lots of money in Vancouver recently and lots of disposable income - no excuse why the AD should play games like this. The Canadian dollar is also weak relative to the US making Canada one of the cheapest countries to buy a Rolex now. This will all change if the Canadian dollar strengthens.

Foreign money in Van has been going on for decades. This goes back before HK was handed back to China. Just drive through Richmond. Dollar is relatively weak (compared to when the Fed was doing QE). But there is still 13% tax in BC that you cannot get back. Because of that, and the lack of supply at most Canadian ADs, Europe will continue to a better bet. |

When the Canadian $ strengthens.. let me know.. !! - See it at the pumps..and everywhere else. Canada is like a 3rd world when it comes to dealing with online trading, import duties and fees, etc. Again, a Government thing. ..And the fact that an AD can't order in a Rolex part from RSC/Toronto, is to, a control thing. You either go with the flow, or source other options/opportunities.
