Platona vs Patek

I was very close to pulling the trigger on a YG submariner and then suddenly 'platinum daytona' came into my head.

To make the numbers work I'd need to swap my Patek 5205R. I love the 5205R but honestly I don't think it suits my style that well as I am young-ish and dress very casually.

So what do you think, Platona worth chopping in my beloved 5205R for? Borrowed the platona pic as don't have one myself. Also i bought my fiancée a gold Daytona so might be a pretty cool combination if I have a platinum!

Appreciate some thoughts on this one as don't want to end up regretting it.

I would pick the Patek any day of the week but you do you.

If you're casual most often, I'd say Platona I think it's a better fit for casual wear than YG on strap.

I prefer the Patek, but it's your call. What do you think of the new ceramic Daytona? Not that they are easy to get, but I am sure they cost less.

Complimenting watches with your fiancé? That's your own call, but I wouldn't get rid of you PP to do it.

God, no! Any Patek any day of the week >>>> Platona. I really don't see the point of the Platona, the brown/baby blue combo is a bit Marmite, and it weighs a ton. (Apologies in advance to Platona owners.)

If you must have a Daytona, get the previous non-ceramic version in steel. Or wait two years for the excitement about the new ceramic bezel to die down. That's what I would do.

Why not split the difference and get something in the Nautilus range?

On looks alone I'd get the platinum Daytona.

to me the Platona is a cool sport watch that can go anywhere do anything and looks great doing it
that other watch on a strap seems to me more like a dress watch for formal occasions

match the fiancée's Daytona with the Platona....total power couple!!

Dr Tom said it best that the platona can e dressed up or down whereas the PP is more of a dress watch.

I love looking at the PP but not on me

Go with what fits your current style. You can always change later in time. Let the watch stand for who you are and how you feel.

I'd stay with the PP. It's nicer, more useful and more exclusive.

The Patek is a beauty, but YG and black isn't my favorite combo. Platona for me. Easily.

If you can do the platona and can live without a date as a daily, go platona.

For me it's Patek any day especially the 5205R, if it's not your style now keep it in the safe, take it out a decade from now your perspective will change.

The 5205 is a fantastic piece - very cool modern AC, especially in Black and RG. Although you may not wear it now, I suspect you may miss it as you get older.

Still, that could be years down the line. I like the idea of splitting the difference with a 5711/15202, so you have a wearable sporty/dressy upper end piece. And if you choose to get another dress watch down the line, I'd look at JLC, so you don't have so much invested in a special occassion piece.

Personally, I'd pass on the Plat, as I'd rather allocate my funds elsewhere, but just my subjective, personal opinion.

I almost bought the 5205R black dial but I find it hard to dress down. I love the platona and I think it is very versatile. I say go for the platona; it's a special watch, IMO.

Almost opposite ends of the spectrum on these two. I would go with how you are wearing the watch. Mostly dress = Patel, mostly casual = Platona. Either way both are aweome.

I'm only 2 1/2 months into platona ownership but couldn't be happier. For me, I don't think there could be a better watch. Looks awesome with casual clothes (me, most of the time), and would look fine with a suit. I can't imagine a watch at its price point that would look better with jeans or other casual attire. And the dial is gorgeous and the watch feels great.

And unlike some other watches at its price point it can withstand the rigors of 16 hour/day use with ease.

So it works with my lifestyle and my eye. I don't dispute that it may not work for others above, or elsewhere.

I'd get the Platona or a RG Nautilus. The 5205 has a lovely dial but the balance and proportions are not quite right for me.

I'm biased towards the Platona, but, and I mean no offense by this... Can someone who answered Patek explain to me why? I've tried so hard to like Patek, but I just can't. Comparing them to Rolex isn't fair either as the watches are very different styles, and Rolex speaks to me whereas Patek doesn't.

Am I missing something by not owning a Patek? Some kind of heritage that should increase its appeal to me?

It sounds like you've already resigned the PP, and for good reasons. You'll never sway the PP crowd here, so do what you know you really want and get the playtona. It's pretty bad ass.
