You will find a lot of dialogue on this subject if you search this forum. But I think, to condense the information it comes down to this: Do you like the dial and the less complicated look of the ND or do you like the look of the date model and want a date.

Steel sports models are hard to get just now at UK dealers.
I think the ND sub is lovely, nice and simple, just enough shine and a great bracelet.

If you like it, it's a very safe bet, go for it.

Form vs. function. Your choice.

Will this be your only Rolex? Most of the other models I'm interested in have a cyclops, so the No Date Sub is a great opportunity to diversify. I was against the cyclops at first, but have come to appreciate both its aesthetics and functionality.

The ND is a really cool watch. It is the only modern Submariner that is true to the originals. If you have another 3135 Rolex with the cyclops, I would take it. There are tons of Sub Dates out there as it's the more common choice because most people buying Rolex for the first time want the cyclops. I'm really considering picking one up too instead of the Date version. They are certified chronometers as well and have been for a decade plus now if that makes a difference. Before then they were not marked as such on the dial.

The 'no date' is called Submariner, and the other Submariner Date. IMO both are perfect watches so you'll be fine with the one you choose.

If you like it get it. Subs are seen by many as a superior design to Sub Dates.

The Submariner is the original and the Submariner Date is a later add on. The Submariner only comes in stainless steel and black face/bezel. About all you need to know. Personal choice now, Submariner or Submariner Date or no choice really as they are offering the Submariner only.

I personally like the cyclops of the DATE, but it is really your preference that matters. Both are winners.

Personally I would go no date unless you really want the date in which I'd go SeaDweller 4000.

I went with the No Date - just like the original there is no date and I like the symmetry. But of course both are stunning watches and its your choice end of the day.

No date is the way to go. Look at your phone or a calendar once a day for the date, and remember it throughout the day. It's not that hard. No date has a great symmetrical look and is not seen that often (if that matters to you). Can't go wrong either way, but the no date is "cleaner" in my opinion.

I just went through this and came away with a Submariner. Not only did the classic simplistic look appeal, but there just seems to be a different appreciation and love for the no date variant. It's just a little more unique and not so popular to the public.
I also got over the wider lugs in about 3 minutes.

I almost quoted every single post above! Great advice provided so far.

There is no wrong choice here.

IMO The Submariner is more in keeping with the original and probably the watch of choice for the WIS and has a cleaner symmetrical look but the date version is usually the one people want because of the cyclops or need for a date function.

I wasn't a fan of the cyclops on a Sub so went for the 114060 but have come to appreciate it so my next purchase was a DJ.

Best of luck !

The majority,50.01% prefer non date.
I have never been offered a Rolex by AD so I don't know what the problem is.
If a brunette offered sex I would not ask the forum if I should ask for a blonde instead...

In the end of the day, you'll have both. That's what happened to me.

I prefer the Sub Date and wear mine quite often, but both are classics. My no date Rolex pieces are Daytonas, though I'd love to get a Sub whenever the next update comes.

Hey, new to the forum and have only posted a couple of times. I personally chose the Sub with date for my first watch after a lot of debate. I can understand what some purist say about the no date, but I for one have never looked back.

Can't really go wrong either way though.

Best,
Eli

Date. A personal choice, but for me, I just could not do without it. I am obviously in the minority here, but I'd even go so far as to say that the no date is a bit boring.

I would go for the date. If you're retired like me, it comes in handy.
