Thinking of going from Datejust II to Datejust 36

Need a bit of inspiration and thought on the following:



My father passed last year and left us with a few watches. Since he had very strong feelings for my SDc and told me to never sell that watch, it is my sole keeper of my (2 watch) "collection".



So, my sister inherited his IWC 3714 and my brother his DJII ref 116300.

Now, neither of the watches has been his for very long so they don't have that much sentimental value.

Aside from my SDc, I had a Speedmaster 9300.



My brother and I traded the DJII for the Speedmaster 9300, and I do like the DJII, but I also think that it is a "overdone" and does not have the nobility and designed-by-function "theme", I have always loved in a Datejust.



So I am thinking about trading the 1166300 for a 116134 on an Oyster bracelet. With the updated lugs, I think I can pull it off on my "OK-sized"-wrists...

Agree with this. On my wrist 36 will not look good, maybe its different in your case. Have you tried it on?

That date just 36 is beautiful. Much more classic Imo.

There is nothing wrong with either model. 36mm was standard men's size for a very, very long time, plus Rolex 36mm always wears on the larger side.
However, I suggest you to try 36mm first and then decide. It won't look "small" by any means, but that DD II looks absolutely perfect on your wrist and it would be hard to beat that IMHO.

The DJII sits well on your wrist. I think the classic 36mm size suits everyone except for those with the largest of wrists. I prefer that watch on a jubilee but if you're set on the oyster go for it. Do whatever makes you happy.

Yes, normally agree as I love the Jubilee and the 70s look, but think the Oyster makes it look bigger and less "flashy"

I agree. The oyster also gives it a sportier look and oyster bracelets are much less prone to stretch, especially the new ones.

No DJII has a roulette wheel or am I wrong? I think that's such a cool feature and must have on a DJ 36mm.

How long do you guys think it'll take for us to see one? They can obviously do it but they probably want to milk DJ41 with the Oysterclasp before doing that.

Pictures are always deceiving, can't really judge how well sized a watch is unless it is person, IMO. My DJ fits my 7.25 inch wrist very nicely, in the flesh. As for bracelets, the Oyster is a great look with the fluted bezel, flash on top, sporty around the wrist. I put a Oyster Perpetual bracelet on mine, all brushed and solid end links. I like it.
And the DJ you have in mind is beauty!!!

36mm is no longer contemporary for a men's size and the 41mm is not proportional and depending on wrist size and shape too big.

DJ41mm SS is what I'm waiting to see at Basel. I'd hold at least until Basel reveals.

Gorgeous dial! Didn't notice that the rhodium arabic dial on the 36mm had this pattern.

Thanxs, and yes it is a real stunning dial
(But more important for me is the comfort
that the DJ36mm provide).

My personal opinion, I have always leaned toward 36mm in both DJ and DD watches.. something about that case size is just classic to me.

It keep the DJ2 personally. It's likely discontinued next week, it's an inspired design, and regardless how long he had it, it was your dads.
Save for the 36.

I prefer the 36 as well. I bought mine with a smooth bezel, but have since added a fluted bezel for versatility
