I feel like a kid that didnt get what he wanted on his birthday
Was just looking at this past post with a bit of sadness, but I will move on and figure out what to do next....
I have been looking at all the new releases all morning, and honestly I can't get any of these dogs to hunt. Absolutely nothing does it for me. Time to revisit a GMT maybe, dunno https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=522465

I like the Dj41 Sky Dweller and the new Sd50 (polarizing as it may be).

I liked the cellini moon phase, the two tone sky dweller and the white dial dd40. But i do agree that none of the models were especially revolutionary.

Rolex Baselworld a disappointment. Nothing that appeals to me for sure. If the the YG Daytona C was available on a YG Oyster bracelet THAT would look really sharp and be up for consideration. Rubber bands look cheap and are not for me.

Thee are certain watches that I can see and can't get my mind off of them. Some that give me an almost palpable "must have" feeling. Not one of the new watches from Rolex does that for me. About the best I can say about most of them is that they are "nice". Only the Cellini Moon Phase is really striking and I have no true interest in a fancy dress watch right now (and it's probably way outside of my budget anyway). I have a classic Datejust, I'm satisfied enough with my Black Bay not to be in the active Sub market for a while and my current interests: BLNR or, possibly a 40mm Explorer II (used of course) are in no way addressed by these watches. At least it makes further shopping easier.

I find that my reaction is consistently underwhelm and with time, the new models grow on me. There's never a whole lot of new inventory and having followed the tons of threads on the hopes and predictions from everyone, my anticipation drives expectations way up. I get caught in the whirlwind of hype and think something earth shattering is going to be released. I'd imagine even if they came out with a coke GMT I'd think "ahhh...half a red bezel, not sure now," and soon enough, I'd lust after one. For me, I feel let down right after regardless, while others seem to keep riding the wave before their interest settles. The Skydweller is big news regardless. I'm not sure there is a single member on here that saw that coming and a whole lot who thought never, including me.

I like the Cellini moon phase but do kind of feel like Clark Griswold after getting the jelly of the month club.

I think I am ok. I see how Omega has released yet another version of the Aqua Terra and it makes me thankful Rolex moves slowly and does not fiddle around with their classic models so much. That being said we have a new SD, their most complicated watch that only came in PM now stainless steel, a revised DJ41 (and kudos to Rolex correcting the DD2 and DJ2 so quickly) and new moonphase Cellini. Really lots of movements for a normally conservative, slow moving company.
When I put this all in context I say it was a pretty good Basel afterall. Not everyone wants a SS Coke.

I think Rolex is making some of the best looking, classic pieces right now. They've fully modernized their line and are making subtle tweaks with a piece every now and then. I do not like the look of the new Sea Dweller. I think the SD4K was perfect but so what? I think we should expect less fanboy requests (like every color GMT Master) and instead appreciate subtle refinement of their existing line. |

The more I think about it the more I think the SkyD in SS is quite a big thing, probably as big as a CokeC. For many owning an annual calendar would not be on the radar but it is now, and with that very cool bezel command too.

Steel YM with red seconds hand would have been fabulous, and more interesting than a triangle at 12 o'clock on the YM2.....zzzz
