Oh Boy....That was close
Hi all,
I haven't posted much since joining in May, but I have been checking in regularly. Well... I've been looking to acquire my first Rolex and really have set my mind to getting the GMTIIc. When the occasion finally arrived, I went to the AD to see what they had in stock. Just out of curiosity I asked if they had a DSSD in to try on. Yes they did - and when I put it on my wrist I have to say that it was very striking! The bezel was very smooth and sharp. The clasp was way cool. Everything about the DSSD was calling my name.... except that it sat so high on my wrist and there were large gaps where the bracelet would be vertical before going around my wrist. I really like the look of a big watch, but that just seemed to be a deal breaker - too "in your face" for me. My wife was no help as she was telling me how nice it looked. This was a much closer call than I expected. I would have walked out with that DSSD if it didn't sit so high. So... back to the GMTIIc. I couldn't be happier and have waited so long to pull the trigger. But wait - with the wifey's B-Day, and our anniversary around the corner, I wasn't done yet. Since she was there, she couldn't help but pick out a Rolex for herself. She has been thinking about getting once she she discovered my obsession, and I convinced her of the value over her first choice - a Michele. I really thought she would go for the lady Datejust, but she did hint she may consider a larger model. She ended up with a 178274 Datejust, and it looks great on her wrist! Thanks for all your support and sharing your expertise - I joined to do some research and stuck around for the camaraderie. On to the pictures. |

Craig - Excellent choices, great pictures and really good-looking watches! That GMT is a stunner, and the DJ with rocks well, just rocks. I see by your avatar that you at least have a glancing interest in motor sports. Tell me, did you drive the beauty that's pictured in your avatar?

The avatar is from a day at Skip Barber racing school. Very cool experience and highly recommended! Beware that you will come home with the urge to buy a Viper and start setting up cones in empty parking lots. |

Congrats, sooooo glad she did not make you throw your
money away on Michelle which is only a name... Not a quality watch and no value...

Thanks everyone. It's a great feeling to finally be part of the club.
I did want to say that with everything going on - economy, price increase - that I got a great deal on the set, and the AD had everything in stock (except the SS Daytona of course). I was in there ready to buy about 1.5 months ago and spent 45 mins getting them to 10% off. This time it took about 2 secs for them to agree to 15% off - I wish now I asked for 20%. Seems that they were much more willing to deal! |
