Stem function/feel
It seems that each time I set my Yachtmaster I feel as though the stem pullout to stop the stop second hand and the the final screw in to seat the stem feel tight, as though I am misaligning the threads when screwing it in, and too tight when pulling the stem out to set.
Is this common, should I be concerned?? |

You don't want to do it too tight, that is possible. It won't kill your watch, but will put unneeded stress on the stem. When you are ready to screw the crown back down, give it a little foreplay or turn it slightly CCW to make sure the threads match up, then just turn it CW till it is snug and flush.

Your advice for seating the crown works better with the CCW move.
I still think the force to pull the crowm out to stop the second hand and set the watch is hard, a good pull is required to get the second hand to stop. Maybe its supposed to be hard to pull out at the final position. Thanks |

As Daren correctly advised, when you are screwing down the crown, push it in with your thumb, turn a little counter clockwise (I hate abbreviations! ) and then start turning clockwise. DO NOT TIGHTEN TOO MUCH AT THE END!!! Just enough so that the crown sits snug against the case without squashing the daylights out of the gaskets and O-rings!! JJ

Rayce,
Each of my Rolex watches has a different feel when unscrewing crown and pulling out the stem -- even though mostly of them have essentially the same movement. I think it's just the slight differences in the cutting of the threads. Some are slick and easy, while others feel rough and tight. Also, whenever I have one serviced, and the crown and tube are replaced, it will feel different than it did with its old parts. It's unlikely that there's any problem with your watch. Peter |
