New Sky Dweller thoughts......
Ive been dying for a blue dial watch for a few months now, and had decided to get a blue Milgauss pending anything great from Basel coming out. Well the SS SkyD blue dial is on the way and Ive hit the brakes until I can see the new guy. NOW, I went to a boutique this weekend and wore the WG SkyD for about 10 minutes. Weight factor aside, this watch has ALOT going on. I found it to be pretty "blingy". I liked the 42 but man its a wrist full of watch. As a former YMII owner, I find this to have even more wrist presence most likely due to the fluted bezel. There is no doubt its dressy but Im wondering if its quite a bit more dressy than casual??? I never gave this piece this slightest consideration bc of the price and I wasn't wild about the layout. What are some thoughts on where the SkyD falls and what type of watch it is. Just curious...

I've been racking my brains trying to decide what category this piece is going to fit and can't make my mind up. If someone was giving me a nipple cripple and forced me to make a call, I'd call it a sports dress watch.
Like you, it's really caught my eye and is growing on me at a rate of knots. I'm leaning towards a black or white dial though. I have a D-Blue and two 44mm Panerais, so I'm hoping the size won't be an issue for me

I actually think the blue dial will be a killer beach watch!
I know it's not designed as such, but 100m water resistance will be more than enough for a splash about in the surf and imagine the glint off that WG fluted dial in the brilliant sunlight...☀️ Sent from my LG-M250 using Tapatalk |

It's a flashy watch no doubt. The WG version would probably not be an every day watch for me even though it's probably my favorite Rolex. The SS/WG may appear a little different on the wrist but I would still classify it as a dress watch with a sport watch function.
The black dial makes it a little more subtle I think but I'm still partial to the white dial myself. |

it is a dress watch.
for anyone who likes a datejust and any gmt rolex this is the watch to own. it satisfies both nicely and the GMT function setting is the best of any rolex on the market. the annual calendar function puts it over the top.

Ask enough people and you'll get a bunch of different answers
I say it's a sports watch. |

I think it looks huge for it to be a dress watch. Even a Datejust II looks way to big, the SkyD looks bigger still.

It is not a dress watch IMO due to its large 42mm size and thickness. It seems to wear big due to thinner bezel and large dial ... I believe this is the largest dial currently offered by Rolex. It is some type of hybrid sports/dress crossover like DDs and DJs.
I'm curious to see the new ss white dial with sticks and compare it to my WG ivory ... |

The SKD has become my grail since it was first introduced. Although I love the look of the WG with ivory I will most likely buy the steel version and hope the ivory dial is available. If not, a white dial will be just fine.

I absolutely love it. It's just too big for me unfortunately. Would definitely consider it if it were 40mm. It can be dressed up or down like a SS Datejust but I think it's a tad more sporty than the DJ/DD due to the centre concentric subdial. I think it looks great and a relatively good value by Rolex standards.

It's neither a sports watch nor a dress watch imo.
In fact it falls awkwardly between the two I do quite like it though

I think it is right in between, the AC and fluted bezel make it dressy but the Oyster bracelet, not the President significantly, and the busy-ish dial layout keep it sporty.

Im happy to see that others are struggling to see where this baby fits. I really found it flashy and quite dressy when I wore it this past weekend. I was wearing shorts and a Tshirt and wasn't the biggest fan of it together.

I can't say if it's dressy or sporty.....but it's growing on me the more I look @ it and I can't try the stainless in the flesh. I would tend to wear this on dressier occasions though because of that fluted bezel. Such a useful complication too.

For all the people who suggest that their watches really don't get noticed, uhh, that ain't happening with this one.
To me, the biggest aesthetic improvement is the inner ring matches the overall dial, seemless. And the sticks give the dial a less crowded look. A nice watch! A dressed up, power DJ.

I don't think it's sporty, neither dressy, but more dress than sports, it is like some say in between the two.
But regardless of that I would not mind owning the blue dial SkyD, and I don't mind the size. |

Way too big and thick to be a dress watch imo. Can't really fit it under your sleeve at all.

It will fall in my watch drawer; as far as what type of watch, I consider it a wrist watch.
I have no problem with the size as I currently wear the DJII and in rotation as well as my PO. I have no issues with either or those fitting under my sleeves (except sometimes when taking off shirts). I don't consider any of the Rolexes dress watches although they can all certainly be worn for formal dress. But truthfully the most dressed I get normally is jeans and a dress shirt (as an engineer). The taboos from watches and dress I believe disappeared in the late sixties. If any thing because of the 24 hour clock I'd consider it a professional. |

I wasn't sure at first, however I am on the waiting list for a blue dial. I currently have wear a Deep Blue most of the time, with my Hulk occasionally. I think when this one comes in, the Hulk may go.
