Icon20 Buying a Rolex in Grand Cayman

Hey guys, newbie here!

Quick question, anyone purchase their Rolex at Kirk Freeport in Grand Cayman? They told me they'll usually 5 to 10% less then the prices stateside. Thinking of purchasing the Batman tomorrow. Price is roughly 8200 US

Thanks!

Sounds like a good price for blnr if there aren't other fees from an ad.

Yes that is a great price and location to purchase one. I actually purchased my first one there as well. Congrats in advance!

Also it won't hurt and they probably won't do it on that model watch but see if you can get a 5%-10% discount. If not see if they have a Rolex gift like a tie. Good Luck!

I'm not making any recommendations here, just want to put something out there for you.......

Say you get the discount:
  • Then, you choose to declare it with US Customs when you return.
  • Then, your State lets you know that you owe State sales tax on it.

How would you fare in the end?

BTW, the Customs-State tax issue is a real one. Search the threads from the past few days and you'll see.

Again, not making a recommendation. Just giving you some food for thought.

Customs fees (Tariff) are 3% after subtracting the $800 exemption. Are you saying that he will get billed State tax in addition afterwords? Those who declared their purchase never mentioned anything about getting billed local tax!

seems like CA is getting desperate . I'd rather give the money to the State than to a greedy AD who charges premium.

Ok, howdy all, been "cruising" *this forum for a while now especially this section as we just hit Georgetown today with our cruise and I'm a watch buff.... Well, as a collector and aggressive shopper I will say this.... A WASTE OF TIME! everything I saw on that island I can get cheaper (significantly) back in the US.... I was hunting for a Deep Sea James Cameron to add to my vault, only one regular deep sea on the whole island with a "best price" of $11,950, my local guy can get me one for under $9500, yes, I do have a relationship with him and this would be my 4 rolex purchased from them but still.... Breitlings are 15% off.... I normally buy them 30-35% off stateside, same for Omega.... The VC was decent so was the Breguet but not more than that.... Guess if you are a retired guy buying your Holly grail one and only time piece it might look as a "deal" from a "place to remember".... I went out, paid $7 for a scoop of ice-cream and crawled back to the ship.... My. 02, oh, the whole "u save on the taxes" crap was getting old, those of us who buy 4+ of these a year already know how to pay or not to pay state taxes... But even than, u add federal taxes/customs and guess what...... These guys on the island are doing u NO Favors!

Same goes for the cruise line stores FYI.... Their "pre-loved" rolex displays and prices are a joke....
