Can ayone make a side by side comparison between a 40mm Panerai and a sub or gmt ?

If your going Panerai you gotta get a 44mm or 47mm. I've been to a few stores and haven't seen a 40mm, they are not a hot seller. The 44 works well even on a smaller wrist. Have you tried on a 44 or 47mm before?

I find it weird that even though it is unloved and seemed to be shunned by everyone (at least what I've read on various forum), the used price seem to be higher than that of a base PAM 000 (which everyone recommends).

It is more popular with non-enthusiast or enthusiast's wives. There aren't a ton out there so when they come up they ask for a little more. It is also auto date also which adds to value. Zero is very popular and plentiful. Base and manual.

I have a SubC, 40mm Luminor Marina and 44mm Luminor Base. I'll take a picture of all three together tomorrow when the sun comes up and post it for you.

Popularity aside, the Marina and Sub are a very close in size, and while I can comfortably wear the Base on my 6.5" wrist, I will be moving it on in the near future as I prefer the smaller size in my collection. That said, and I cannot exactly explain why, IMHO the Marina suits a bracelet better and does not look so good on a strap. If that is how you want to wear a Panerai, I would suggest getting a 42 or 44mm as others have suggested above. Fortunately, I mostly wear watches on bracelets, but if I was to replace the base with a PAM to mainly wear on a strap I would probably opt for a modern 42mm Radiomir.

Pam should always be on straps although I have a steel bracelet as well.

You see, it is so ugly. It is only my opinion and it is still all Pam should be on straps. It is the same 24. The difference is so obvious.





Oh and BTW, the 48 belongs to my wifey. Also, she has already stolen the 116610LN. She is wearing both on rotation.

For all the fellow members that recommended me a bigger size, 40mm is the sweet spot for me. Sold my Explorer II 42mm cause of that.. and now im sticking with 40mm.

Pam 48 looks like a great piece and hopefully ill be adding it soon.. i dont have an AD here in my state so thats why i needed the comparison to check it agains my sub

I noticed you've asked a couple of times about the weight of the PAM 048 on a bracelet without any response. I have a 069 that is similar and it weighs this much:

You are welcome. Glad I was able to help. I am in consensus with those telling you to get at least 44 MM. PANERAI are supposed and meant to be big. Oh well, it's you.

As per my limited of the PANERAI brand, for 40MM, only the 48 is available new from an AD or it is still a current production model. Models like 49 (White dial) 50 and 51 (Both with steel bracelet) are obsolete models.

Yes, that's correct. I like the sandwich dial too, but at the time I bought, tobacco and brown dials only came with painted marker and only a few references came with this:



It was the decoration on the movement that made me decide on the 116. I also have a bunch of straps for it from all over the place. As I said before, 44mm watches, in particular, really look good on a strap. I have one OEM deployant strap for the 069, but have never warmed to that watch on a strap. I might try again with one of the rough-texture aftermarkets with minimal stitching and see if that suits it better.

It's the zero on my wrist and the 48 on my wife's wrist. In case you can't tell the differences, zero is with the Pam logo.

I am the strange one out, actually prefers 40mm over 44mm.

I had both and end up liking 069 way more. Reasons being :

(1) have smaller 6.5 inch wrist, 40 mm is more comfy overall especially on a warm day.

(2) 44mm pam looks cool but it's more of a weekend watch. Looks funny wearing it with work / semi formal attire. Plus you will bump into everything

MANN!!! Is that even a real/authentic PANERAI? If it is, what a way to spoil a good watch. Also, considering the money spent on the bling, you should have spend on good straps instead of mounting it on rubbers.

Just my opinion, one of the worst Frankenstein watch I have seen. What a waste.

My 40mm PAM 0050 says hi , on my 6" wrists the 40mm works just fine , the steel bracelet is stunning too . I think I've broken the 2 panerai don't dos ? Steel bracelet and 40mm 😜
