Sea-Dweller 2017 / Polyphemus

We have a new nickname for the new Sea-Dweller ! By Guido Mondani is the name "Polyphemus" : the most famous cyclops, son of Poseidon, king of the Sea..

We think it is perfect for the "king of the sea" Rolex Sea-Dweller, now with the Cyclop lens..

What do you guys think about it ?

Nicknames are born spontaneously. Modern ones are shameful like smurf, hulk, batman etc but they started somewhere I'll give you that, so if the watch gets upset it'll stick.

Personally, I find the nicknames silly.

I think they are more applicable to Seikos, since they don't really have names. Rolex have names already.

I've been so out of touch, tracking down naughty computer people, that I just found out about the new Sea-Dweller 43mm.

It took me a few minute to realize it got a cyclops.

Not sure if I love it or hate it yet.

Sorry, but I'm pretty sure that name won't stick.

I'm sure Padi will give his approval for this latest Rolex nickname.

Because it's moronic. Too long, silly-sounding, hard to remember, obscure, unflattering.

SD43 is sufficient.

You can't say that because it already has above...

I don't see that one working with the same general public that has dreamed up hulk, batman, etc. But, I could be wrong.

If we need a nickname, how about "SD43"? It rhymes.

This issue has been dealt with a few weeks ago.
A nickname has to be easy to say, short and relevant..
On balance I think the general consenus on the forum is SD43 as it works on every level.

nicknames are normally short.

what about "the polyp"

A polyp is an abnormal growth of tissue projecting from a mucous membrane.

SD43 makes zero sense. What happens when the next sea dweller comes out?? It will still be 43mm..

SD50 makes sense.

And can we stop giving marvel character names to watches..

That mythological name (whatever it was, can't remember it!) will never stick. The generally accepted nicknames seem to come from children's cartoons or initials and cases sizes.
