Will we ever see a titanium Rolex?
Why hasn't Rolex done this yet? and should they?
Was kind of hoping we'd see an anniversary sea dweller in titanium... |

I hope not because aged titanium watches don't look as good.

Show us a nice vintage Ti watch that aged well. I can show you plenty of steel vintage Rolex that look absolutely wonderful.

No changes that I've seen over the past 15 years. Ti is an awesome material when done right. Show us a picture of a Ti watch that hasn't aged well (please).

I don't think you read my first comment. I said that Ti doesn't age AS well as steel. Ti watches usually have a lack lust grey dull look to them.

Ti could happen, popular with other brands, tho more likely on a Tudor I think, like the BB Darks and Blackshields are.

I don't like the lack of shine I see on Ti watches.

Titanum feels awful.....like the watch is full of helium. Way too light for my taste.
I tried on the new Breitling Avenger Hurricane the other day and it's a 50MM +/- piece made out of titanium.......the strap was heavier than the case. |

I would never say never but once again it seems that Rolex uses Tudor in this spot. I love my two line Pelagos, one of the most comfortable watches I own.

I hope so. The newer Seamaster comes in Titanium and is sexy light in weight. A buddy has one and the pcl's on his grade 5 Ti bracelet look new compared to my 4 month old GMT2C. I would definitely pay more for a lightweight Rolex tool watch upgraded to a high quality Ti.

I love Titanium watches, but I don't think that metal suits Rolex well. There are plenty of options out there for great Ti watches.

Maybe, I think that may have already done it with the Pelagos.

Only brought up because a titanium watch could add diversification to the range, not saying that Rolex should due away with steel, just possibly add a titanium model. Also if the idea is to create a high-end tool watch, being light certainly is a plus. Granted that Rolex seems to be using the Tudor brand for toolwatches and Rolex for the luxury pieces, I still think they could make a really high performance model using titanium. Grand Seiko does titanium VERY well.
Regarding my comment on a titanium sea dweller, one of the issues with the dwellers has typically been that they are top heavy. A little better on the more recent models, but still a slight issue. The titanium could perhaps fix this due to less weight? Just a thought. I would buy one for sure, just to mix it up. |
