Hi all -- I recently sold a no-date Sub that I've worn for the past 15 years.

I'm thinking about buying a new two-tone DJ41 but am worried about a couple of things.

1. It doesnt seem as rugged. Am I going to worry about it if I go out on the driveway and throw a baseball around with my son? Or shovel snow? Or take a dip in the pool?

2. With no double locking clasp, will it pop open?

3. What about value? I sold my Sub for more than I paid 15 years ago. Will I be able to do the same with the DJ41?

So, do I get this, or replace my old Sub with a new ceramic Sub with date?

I dont get why you are asking us which of two different watches to buy. Buy what you like. In regards to durability the sub C would be a little more durable but the DJ is an Oyster professional model and should be able to handle everything you throw at it. Both braceets have the Oyster clasp so no worries about it popping open. Good luck and post pics when you get it.

1. All Rolex oyster models are rugged and can take a beating.

2. You don't have to worry about it popping open

3. The short answer is no. It probably will not be as good of a "value". SS pieces tend to hold their value better than TT.

I've been wearing Rolex watches for over 40 years and I've never had a durability issue. I wear DayDate, DateJust, and a relatively new GMT and do more "rough" stuff than you describe. The clasp on my DayDate has popped open a couple of times, but never on my DateJust. The two watches you are considering are vastly different. Both are strongly made. You just need to decide between dressy and sporty.

So no worries using the DJ41 as an everyday watch then? I think that was my primary concern. I quickly got used to doing anything with the Sub and don't want to have to think about taking off my watch to do day-to-day activities.

1. It's a Rolex...it will take everything you throw at it (pun intended).

3. Hard to say...but doubt it. But, does it really matter if that's the watch you want?

Wear with confidence. Any Rolex can stand up to daily wear and the things that you describe

As for resale - who knows. I wouldn't make a purchase based on that, but rather on what I want to wear and enjoy now

Buy what you like. They are all pretty durable. The TT won't hold it's value as good as a sport watch.

Or have both sizes since it's another Rolex. 36mm-40mm maxed sizes for me, but keep the DJ a 36mm. The would be other sports can have the 40/41mm.

One look is a dressy watch, the other a tool/sports watch.

One has a different/unique movement - the other keeps dual time at a glance.

Neither one can be dropped on the floor - but neither one is a Cartier either.
So get in the pool, throw the ball with your kid, don't catch it on your watch though. Catch it in the glove.

*if anyone wants to jump in and say 3 time zones, just include a photo showing LA, NY and UK time zone - at a glance ;)

As I said above, I have three Rolex watches. The blue/black GMT is my favorite. It is a stunning watch. I still travel a lot and the second time zone feature is very useful. It is also a rugged watch. No worries.

No worries, the TT DJ is pretty much Rolex's signature watch, more people are wearing these on a daily than any other.

Yes you will. It's so much more solid now. And the ceramic bezel is amazing! I say go for the new sub.

My wife beats the $&@& out of her DJ. Still looks great on her wrist.....if you don't look to close .... which I don't. Tips of the flutted Bezel will get some marks. Great watch. I love my DJII but don't wear it enough.

The 41DJ is a winner on every level.
The chocolate brown dial with Rose Gold & SS on jubilee with fluted bezel is a dream watch!!

Ok -- decision made. The GMT II just spoke to me. It's a professional model like the Sub but a bit different than what I had. Also resale value is very strong on this watch and it just looks so nice on the wrist! Couldn't justify the DJ41 at this point.

Congratulations on your GMT-IIC LN! That's the exact reference I bought as my first Rolex back in 2008. It's a great watch with an excellent movement. Wear it in good health! Professional SS models tend to hold their value best. The DJ41 is a fine watch too. Cheers!
