End link question.

I have a 9315 bracelet with has one 280 end link and one 285 and for all my looking at them I can't see the difference, can anyone enlighten me

I think the 285 is the Tudor equivalent.

It's for a Rolex vintage Sea Dweller.

The 285 is for a 1665 seadweller, the 280 for a submariner or GMT. They should be slightly different.

Thanks Fredrik! I know about their application but I've now gotten the loupe out now and am studying them side by side and honestly they are identical, except for the stamp of course...

280s + 9315 fitted to my 1969 1680 sub, 285+9315 fitted to my 1967 1665 Seadweller,I was told the Seadweller is all original by the son of the original owner, tbh he didn't even know what he had before joining here, so I have to believe him, what I mean is I trust what he told me.

285 was probably a tad higher in profile new as the SD is higher than a sub. After put on a sub the watchmaker fitted it for that watch which is why there is no difference today. At least my guess. :)

They are quite easily bent into and out of shape. I have adjusted end links myself when they had the wrong profile. In my case i adjusted some old 358 end links into the same shape as a pair of new 558s. The 358s I had was previously reshaped to fit better onto a submariner.

My guess is that whoever frankened your bracelet together reshaped the end links into the same profile.

The lose Tudor version of 280 is for some odd reason called 380 B which makes absolutely no sense as all Rolex 3xx ends are fixed. Not that it is related to this thread but just as a nerdy fun fact.

285 is the SD....i have one. I use it for my Red Sub. Back in the day it was the wild wild west and you could choose the bracelet as well as the watch so a lot happened back then......9315s on GMTs, 7836s with 1680s, etc. Nobody knows for sure. Springer once said to me what is possible and what is probable......use that as a defining characteristic.

From the factory, it came as the same on each end. so it has been tampered with. Good news is the 285 should sell for what the 280 will cost you or the other way around.....
