SD43 demanding Daytona C premiums?

DavidSW has the first SD43 listed for $18k on his website. Is it really going to demand that premium?

Don't think so but all David needs is ONE eager buyer who can't wait even weeks from AD and it'll get SOLD.

Let hope this will not be another Daytona C fiasco. Watchfinder here in T.O, Canada recently sold a few white dial Daytona C for $26,500. The MSRP for the Daytona C here in Canada is only $14,250. There are fools out there willing to pay the premium to acquire these watch just for show and tell.

Exactly this.

We are all just burning money.

There is not a watch owned here that provides us with an essential function that can't be found on your iPhone.

Just because we have different perceptions of what a lot is doesn't mean that the lot of us aren't nuts for this passion we share.

My $17,000 Daytona Ceramic and I thank you for saying that. Neither of us feel foolish for finding each other.

Someone pays $3,500 more for a 40 year old Submariner than a brand new one and it's high-fives all around. "Great job, bro! What a great spider dial! Love the yellow markers! Fantastic ghost bezel! It's so tropical!"

Someone pays $3,500 more for a new Daytona that's impossible to find and would create years of frustration waiting on an endless and unfair priority list and its "a fool and his money are often parted".

It's expensive jewelry. There is no right or wrong way to obtain it. With more and more WIS turning to the grey market because they are left little alternative, the judgement and name calling isn't necessary or appropriate.

Interesting point of view and never thought of comparing it to vintage

This is a GREAT point. 4 Digit Daytonas are getting from 30-1mm dollars depending on the dial, condition, etc. In comparison 17.5k for a new Ceramic Panda is cheap. I personally have an issue paying above list for a new Daytona but I have paid a veritable ton for factory engraved watches or "issued" watches where no one can tell but me. We all have our pet peeves in this game. I originally hates he new SD but it has really grown on me and its a hell of a lot cheaper than a Double Red, etc. I am going to try and get one but I get why guys will pay u for things of they can't get it. Its too early to tell if this is another DaytonaC or not. I hope not but its all a marketing decision by Rolex. Only time will tell. In the meantime if you walk into a boutique in NYC they basically laugh at you when you bring it up or you can go here and get one from DavidSw or other trusted sellers. In some ways its more satisfying to buy it here. How wants to be laughed at when they are seeking a DaytonaC or SD or any other watch fir that matter. Dignity has a price too....

Is ones affinity or lackthereof a requirement for this watch? I recall in the first episode of hodinkee's talking watches, one of johns favorite watches was an iwc cousteau diver....

But barring all of that, my reference was to their reaction to the Daytona C release and the ludicrous premiums it demanded in may of last year

I doubt it'll be like the Daytona. Rolex historically has done this with the Daytona SS, but not there SS models.

I suspect the first few will sell at a high premium due to supply (initial runs are always lower as production ramps up).

I can't imagine this will be as limited as the Daytona C or even the D Blue. In the meantime i saw an english dealer hawk the idea that the red text will be short lived and that it will go to white in the next year or two. I honestly don't see that happening but the hype level thanks to the internet and geeks like us is impressive.
