Cartier Roadster!!!

Speaking of watches. Saw one in a new watch magazine yesterday that I really liked! (bought the mag at airport in Malaysia, but just now getting around to reading).

Cartier Roadster. White Gold Special Edition. Has Burl Walnut Dial and Burl Walnut Center links on the Bracelet. Way out of my budget, but very nicely done. Especially since I am a big fan of walnut on fine firearms.

Cartier makes some great watches and is a company with a great history. Actually the "first" pilots watch was the Santos. I would not mind getting a Cartier Roadster GMT XL in the future.

As I told you once before I think, an aquaintance that I met in Afghan, that had been doing security work in Iraq and Afghan the last couple of years, only owns one watch. A Cartier Roadster. Wears it everyday 24/7 for the last 2 years. Looks great on his wrist with his tactical clothing and kit. Watch was all scrathed and beat up to hell. He says he never takes it off. Watch still running strong!! Watch is super comfortable on the wrist with the curved shaped case and well engineered SS Bracelet. Now that is a great testimony to a watch and the punishment it takes. Definately on my futire must buy list!

Sounds like you've found your next watch for your collection. Let me know how it goes.

A very beautiful type of wood. Hope this link works below:

Burl Walnut

Some other beautiful types of wood:
  • Koa
  • Birdseye maple
  • Mango

Yes, the watch would go great with some of my Wood in-layed Chris Reeve knives. I hope Cartier will come out with a SS Version in the near future, in XL size.

I always like the Roadster. It is on my short list. When I get rich and loaded and will be able to amass a watch collection, I will get a Roadster :)

Oh, yeah! Roadster is amazing timepiece!

I have loved the Cartier Roadster for a number of years, but it is number 7 on my 10 list.

Beautiful watch!

You can get that XL Cartier Roadster GMT at a discount almost anywhere. I have to agree with you, that is a superb timepiece. I really like the feel, weight and look of it.

Hmmmm......looks like the wife and I are in for a "discussion"......

I love my Roadster Chronograph. They are cool watches and being able to swap from a bracelet to a strap with no tools makes it very wearable for sport or dress.

Agreed on that one. It didnt help the second week I had mine I hit my arm on the water fountain walking by, and put a real nice scratch right above 12 and another at 9 on the bezel. If you look close enough to my pictures you can see them.

My dealer said he can buff them out, but I am going to wait until it needs a service as as much as I wear mine, it will get more scratches.

It is not a small watch and different sites say different things, the best on I have found which goes along with my measurements on my Chrono is 47.6x 42.8 and is 12.2mm thick.

Still it wears smaller than my Pam 111. I guess it is because it is tonneau shaped vs being round or cushion shaped.

To the question on the movement, the roadster uses the ETA 2894. Cartier does use movements from GP, JLC, Piaget, Fredrick Piquet and a few other high end movements on there much higher end stuff.

Here is a link from another site that shows the movement for different models. I hope I have not broken any rules putting it here.

Well, as long as it does not wear bigger than a PAM 111, I can handle it. I really like the black dial version. Hmmm!!!

Revolution, a pretty pickey watch mag, just named Cartier as one of the most innovative brands of the year and one that really "gets it."

Have you seen the new Santos with a dial that you can manipulate via a crown? It operates like a blind -- white, black, and in the intermediate position a skeleton.

Wow! That sounds uber-cool! I wonder what the price tag is on that bad boy?

I love the roadster chrono espcially with the black dial, names and brands aside; it was a very close fight between the daytona and the black roadster....but i figured i could get a roadster more easily than a daytona, so better go for the daytona while i had the opportunity, but its way up there on my hit list.......

Question: What movements do most Cartier use; JLC, AP?, VC? ETA.....and are the JLC and AP movements only for the high end models?

I do not like Chronos as I have no use for them

BUT

I think the Roadster looks 100% better as a Chrono

I owned a TT Roadster and loved it but it required servicing too frequently so I sold it and returned to Rolex. But I may buy another one - SS this time with the ROMANS.

1) Was wondering why the roadster chrono had two different faces? Can anyone shed more light on this?

2) The roadster chrono was only ever offered in one size? XL?
