The Coolest Watch On The Planet?

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/pa...-daytona-rolex

The watch that defined the term "Paul Newman Dial" is coming into the market.

Ben Clymer gives all the details in this thread and they are awesome.

I guess it is now worth between $750K and a cool $Million!

I think it will be well in excess of $1M. It's the pink unicorn of vintage watches.

1M$ isn't going to cut it. Some would sell their entire collection for this piece

How cool is that!

Sorry, I just don't get it and probably never will. Nice example, wonderful provenance, but there are so many Valjoux 72s out there that look great and keep good time, I will never be able to understand that level of inflated value. Yes, there's only one. Yes, he was not just a celebrity but a pretty decent human being BUT does that really add MILLIONS of dollars in value? Is the currency so debased? Are the 1% just so obscenely loaded with cash that this is meaningless? Count me out, love the watch but nauseated at the madness.

The guy who doesn't own a watch is wondering the same thing about the overpaid one on your wrist. Touché

Eric Clapton's went for just over $1M. I predict about $5M for PN's personal one.

The only thing to rival this would be Steve McQueen's actual 5512.

It should break all records for a Rolex, I can see the bragging rights driving a colossal bidding war over this and well over the high estimate of I guess 10m.

You have to remember, that back in the day, this watch was his "daily beater" !!!

PS: The word "Cool" in the thread title was a reference to one of his best movies: "Cool Hand Luke"...
I thought for sure one of you guys would have spotted that !!

Yes but it was a present from his wife and was engraved.
And to a boyfriend, not even a husband of his daughter.
