Day date 40 vs royal oak rose gold 41mm

Hey guys, just wanted to share with you some of my thoughts. A new incoming
For me. Some comparisons. Day date 40 rose- green dial versus AP royal oak 15400 rose- black dial

Weight- I want something heavy, does anyone know the exact numbers? I'm sure the AP wins here.

Bracelet- it's close, both iconic bracelets but the AP is a notch above.

Price/resell- the day date is anywhere from 5 to 8k cheaper than the AP. I would think the daydate holds value a little bit better also.

Dial- it's a close one. I can't decide

Movement- with all the upgrades to the daydate. I think that wins here. The AP is nice to look at but not as advanced. -I could be wrong*

I'm thinking of getting the daydate as my PM model and adding a 15400 in steel
And a steel nautilus down the line.

Nothing tops the president bracelet. Nothing. The DD40 is the best release yet.

I'm not an AP fan. 5980 strap nautilus is a beautiful thing. I'd totally skip the AP, but that's just me.

I like your thought of getting the DD as your PM watch and adding a steel 15400.

Agree, sounds like a good balance, altho the RG RO bracelet is a work of art.

Rolex DD as PM piece and add a SS 15400 (or 15202) later

I owned a DD40 and I own a SS 15400. It really comes down to your personality and lifestyle. for me the Royal Oak, even in Gold fits my style a little better than that of the DD40, which is a little bit dressier and more mature IMO.

I will say though, that the DD40 felt like a bullet proof watch despite being there more "dressy" of the two watches. It's got all the things we love about rolex rolled into an amazingly beautiful and refined package.

The bracelet is incredible btw, and I'd almost give the overall win to the DD40 over the RO despite the incredible finishing of the RO.

I think Roger has the right idea. If you can afford to, pick up a DD40 and add a Steel 15400 later on.

Did you post this same thing in the AP forum? It would be interesting to see how the responses contrast to those here in Rolex Forum. Both are stunning pieces, but I would vote for the DD (my Rolex bias).

The 15400 has a small movement with the date really far into the dial. Try and source a good 15300 instead.

If horology is your thing, then the finishing and decoration on an AP puts it in a league above the Rolex.

Kilyung, I think, is the one who said that Rolex is actually one of the best for buying pm watches at a comparatively better price. So, buying the AP in SS isn't a bad idea. And you should know that pm Rolexes don't hold their value like an SS submariner or Daytona will.

I like your DD plan for PM, and then AP and a Nautilus. I would skip the 15400 and stick with a 15202 Ultra Thin. In my opinion thats the only AP tp own unless its a perp cal RO.

I wouldn't keep an AP if I was given one, it would be flipped for a DD40 in a heartbeat.

Forget them both and get a RG 15202 - for me it's the best looking watch made. I own both DD's and AP's and there is nothing like AP RG. The bracelet alone is far superior to any offering from Rolex to Patek. The watch is amazing and once you have on you will totally understand. Also as Tony said above I would take a 15300 over a 15400 in SS all day long and did. Good luck...
