Icon1 8 Murders!

This morning, about 7 kilometers from where I live, 8 men were found murdered (shot to death according to the latest reports) near a farm. They were found inside several vehicles, including a tow truck from the Toronto area - it appears that all the vehicles are from Toronto, which is about 200 km from where I live.

Here is a link to the story on the CBC web site:

http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/natio...eld060408.html

The bodies were found by a local land owner - there are police all over the place today. I have to say that these are the kinds of things I am used to reading about happening on other parts of the world, not just down the road from my house.

The police are of the opinion that those who committed the crime are long gone - let's hope so! My guess is some kind of drug deal gone bad.

Never good, even worse if it is even remotely close to home.

I heard this and was really shocked. It seems like our area is becoming what some big urban areas in the USA were a few years ago. Our problems get compared to NYC's violence and crime before Gulianni cleared things up. I'm not sure what the solution will be, our current Conservative Gov't claims they have some ideas to curb violence in our streets... but I won't hold my breath!

I think people who compare us to places like NYC or other large US cities are being a bit over the top. No doubt things appear to be getting worse here over the last few years, but we have a long way to go to catch up to many places in the US (and I'm sure other places in the world).

Just for comparison I did a quick search and found this statistic for 2002. The murder rate in Toronto in 2002 was 24 murders per million people. For the same period Chicago was 229 murders per million people.

A shocking story to be sure. But let's think about this for a second... Recently Al told us about a guy from his work who 'commited suicide', another guy from his work who was shot to death outside a bar, just last week he told me he saw what looked like someone hit and killed by a train and now these eight murdered people.

Either 'London' Ontario is the death capital of Ontario, or perhaps Al has some s'plainin' to do.

You know that the best way to throw suspicion off you is to turn the attention to you. Everyone thinks a crook wouldn't make himself conspicuous. This is just simple reverse psychology.

CJ, maybe you should inform the RMCP to start checking into Al's whereabouts recently.

I've already talked to my contacts at the OPP (yeah, you know me).

Well, coincidentally, I happen to know the person who was hit by the train on Friday, and contrary to what I witnessed, no one was actually killed (but one person in the van was injured - broken leg requiring some surgery).

Having been hit by a train once myself, I can tell you it is not something I would wish on anyone. I was lucky enough to come out of my train/vehicle experience without a scratch, but I certainly am not looking to push my luck!

Robert (Willie) Pickton has been charged with 27 counts of first degree murder related to the disappearance of prostitutes in the greater Vancouver area.

Here is some information from the CBC web site:

A gruesome case. The bodies were buried all over his pig farm... many of the bodies were allegedly fed to the pigs.

Not really buried, more like he used a wood chipper. Grim, but that's what they were saying.
The feds were litterally sifting the dirt looking for DNA fragments.
The farm is about 10km as the crow flys from my office ( across a River mind you)

Interesting cuz the 8 murders were what... 7 or 8km from Al's office. I think you guys have some weird connection, but I can't quite put my finger on it (and I don't want to).
