Why doesnt AP add a new model to their Royal Oak line??
Why doesn't AP add a new model for their Royal Oak line? The Perpetual Calendar is very nice but pricey as heck. And the tourbillion and skeleton models serves more aesthetics then function.
I wonder if they will take more of an Patek Phillpe approach and broaden their functions on the sports line. Maybe a GMT to come?? What do you guys think? |

you can't be serious right? there are about 110 royal oak variations including a dial time. 35 of them are new this year.
Patek has 32 in the Nautilus collection and 13 in the aquanaut collection. If i was being picky i would say AP could do with a moonphase on a chronograph using the 6 o'clock subdial. Putting that on a 15400/15202 etc would ruin the dial IMHO. |

If you read my post I said functions. I don't know where you misinterpreted that for variations. You are wrong. There are only 5 functions, I listed in my post. You can check that on AP.com. |

AP has multiple moon phase RO's included in their Perpetual Calendars. Not to mention a minute repeater, chronograph, perpetual, open worked Grand Complication RO!
PS OP: If you study Audemars Piguet you will know that much of the beauty of the watch is from the countless hours of hand finishing and personal attention their watches get from start to finish. In fact the Open Worked watches take 200 extra hours of hand finishing to transform their movements. So it isn't only about function - clearly it is about looks and attention to detail at those levels. Of course Patek makes nice watches and are a top watch house but looking at variety among those two lines there is no comparison. AP introduces new RO's each and every year and has evolved the line so much over the years.

Lol! Have another look: There is simply no comparison when it comes to variety and the Royal Oak vs Patek Nautilus except you got it wrong: https://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/wa...-by=collection

I wouldn't mind seeing a redesign of the Dual Time, I do prefer the Rolex and Aquanaut versions.

One thing I was wondering is a a dual time like the AP better for world travelers. My buddy works in international real estate and wears a Rolex GMT. He was saying it didn't work because India was +5:30 GMT (+12:30 vs PST) and his Rolex couldn't keep track of home time and India time because of the 30min time zone difference. I assume the Patek travel time would be the same because it advances in 1 hour increments. Does the dual time truly allow you to set two independent time zones with 30 min variations? If so he's getting the AP dual time.

The AP dial time in the picture on the website is set to 10:07 on the main reference and 8:18 on the dual time instead of 8:07, indicating that it may be totally independent. Would love to get a confirmation though as yes, it would be better than a GMT/Patek travel time which just tracks hour differences instead of two separate times. |

However, there are few exceptions which allow 30mins/independent 2nd timezone adjustment such as the Blancpain Villeret GMT, Parmigiani Hemispheres and Arnold & Son DBG.

He should seriously take a look at the F.P. Journe Resonance line. FP has a very cool watch with two movements in the case which work seoerately yet in cadence with each other based on the principle of resonance and solve this exact issue. But be ready and prepared, Journe watches have the ability to become intoxicating. |

AP is already being viewed (wrongly) as a one trick pony with the RO, please they should expand elsewhere.
