Emirates "recycling" unfinished champagne

Saw this on reddit: https://streamable.com/uhf74

Is this standard airline practice? seems unsanitary

Opps! That's not a good PR move.

Not Cool!

Company are going to say she did that on her own initiative.
Nobody does that on their own initiative.
She was clearly told to do it.

Terrible. Thank goodness I don't drink champagne on those flights. It's looks as if the flight has yet to depart and that this was the round of champagne offered at beginning if flight. My guess a few glasses on the tray were not taken (as opposed from half drunk glass) and she decanted this back into the bottle!! Why? Well we know Emirates is having a real tough time this year and I notice them getting cheaper and cheaper in things from toilette bags, sleep suits, chocolates with coffee etc. Ehat you need to do to save a buck!!

This makes the most sense to me but I still can't imagine why someone would choose to do this where it can be seen by passengers

Yes - when I thought about it, it would almost certainly only be unused glasses that were being recycled.

Bit of a false economy really as the 'blended' bottles are going to be a bit flat by the time the next 'round' is served. I suppose you could then pour half glasses of flat and top it up with freshly opened bottles, but unless it is expensive Champagne it hardly seems worth all that trouble.

My ex-mil used to put potato chips back in the bag, even after the chips sat out for two hours. She's always touching her eyes and nose ... seriously, the way she rubs her nose, you'd think it was Aladdin's Lamp, and was waiting for gold coins to begin dropping out of it.

Last time I was visiting and she did that, I retrieved the bag and turned the chips into fine crumbs.

As far as booze, I've seen an overpour of good scotch go back into the bottle. At my dad's house.

But wine? Especially bubbly? <sounds of a cat vomiting>

Are you absolutely certain the entire recording of the second flight stewardess pouring champagne back into the bottle while the first flight stewardess looks directly to the hand-held video camera wasnt rigged?

Did you know that rival airlines can pay saboteur anything between USD1000- USD 10000 depending on the type of sabotage just to ruin another airline's reputation e.g breakdown of on-board mini theatre(USD 5000), heavily salted food on board (USD1000), flight delays due to flat tire and check this out - pouring saline laxatives containing Mg salts and sodium phosphates into passengers' coffee that cause bowel evacuation in 30 mins.Imagine seeing passengers running to the toilets every 10 mins and chaotic scenes of people banging on the doors ! Priceless isnt it??(those agents are tasteless, odourless and cannot be detected)

So I believe that video is a Fake and an act of sabotage against the Dubai based Emirates Airlines.Ok.I'm done here. Thank You for having me "On Board" Sir

That could very well be the case. In the original Reddit post, it wasn't clear who took the video or why the employee was pouring from the glass back to the bottle.

I see Delta, United and AA written all over this "hidden PR video!"

Would the press be making such a big deal over this if it had been another airline doing it with OJ or water that remained left over after offering it to First or Business Class Pax while still on the ground? NO!

seems staged to me. The practically empty cabin apart from the flight attendants is suspicious. Who were they pouring the drinks for in the first place?

It's possible, that catering didn't stock enough for the entire flight, maybe the aircraft was delayed arrive and could be any number of reasons. I don't think flight attendants would go through the trouble to do this actually, especially US crews. For all we know they were half full and people drank from the glass although I saw no one in first class

That's because that was business class. First class are enclosed suites...

I always sit in 1B when flying on United.

I've never seen the cabin crew blend partially opened bottles to limit the amount of glass in service, so I doubt I individual drinks would be put back in the bottle.

Heath regulations and all that.

Tending to agree here. I'd be curious if this was an airline (aka upper management) mandate as it is unlikely that a flight attendant would be taking on such a practice on his/her own.

Obviously on the ground with no pax onboard. Hard to say what the circumstances were but if not part of the script you can rest assured the firing squad will be convened at sun up. EGK rules with an iron fist, no if ands or buts about. Or, may if you get lucky you will be deported back to your home country

I saw this on Reddit as well. There were numerous, very plausible explanations (a few flight attendants chimed in). Flight attendants can take the unused booze home with them, so they pour it in the bottle for easier transport. Also, they cannot dump the liquids while at the gate, so it is possible she is pouring it back into the receptacle to dispose of it while in the air. It is a lot easier to pour out a few bottles of champagne while people are ringing the service buzzer than it would be to dump 40 glasses.

The thought that an EK, or any flight attendant from any major airline would be allowed to take an unfinished bootle of wine or booze with is absurd. If you need someone to explain the logic behind that you must not be familiar with human nature or Customs laws. Dumping liquids at the gate is frowned upon as either it's hot and burns someone, or it freezes on the ground and some poor ramp worker slips and falls. So...that's why they dump it down the toilet

Times are tough right now for many airlines in the Middle East.

Cheers.
