Dilemma over a DateJust
Spoke with my AD regarding the new DJ41 or a DJII.
On a DJII he offered a super competitive price; on new DJ41 he gave me something off but not nearly as substantial, percentage wise. I liked the DJII, smooth or fluted bezel, it was a nice silvery dial; but the new DJ41 !! Really nice, the subtle design changes are real improvements - the bezel, the more tapered lugs, lower profile. Proportionally, it looks like a classic DJ, just a bit larger. I'm torn between the two, particularly because of the great price he offered on the DJII. To the DJII owners, are you happy with your watch? Is it as suitable for everyday use? Versatile for casual and dressy? Size wise, is it comfortable? In the end I have to be sold on all these things, too, but I'd like the perspectives of owners. Thanks,

I don't t own either, but I can tell you that if you have a real favourite by design (DJ41), then down the road you will probably regret saving 500 bucks to get your second choice.

Sounds like you prefer the DJ41 but still considering DJII because of the price. I wouldn't. I would get the one that sings to me.
I am advising the above since I did otherwise . . . and regretted. At a great cost! Good luck in choosing! |

Don't let price be the motivating factor...get the one you really like, if not you'll regret it later.

Don't own any of them, but it would be wiser to buy the one you like more, rather than a discount.

Yes, common sense in a hobby involving bright shiny objects, usually ruled by emotions and perception.

Go with the one you love most....if you make your choice because it's a better deal, you'll regret not getting the one you love every time you look at it...

I am in similar situation, I can't make up my mind between the DJII and Datejust41 for a fluted bezel with blue dial and stick markers. I've tried on both several times and probably will end up with the Datejust41 because of the new movement and availability. Not in a rush to make my decision though since I'm now waiting for the SD50. That should keep me busy for some time. Good luck with your decision.

I was dead set on picking up a used DJII fluted, blue, on an oyster from a TS for $6500 or so. Then happen to try the 41 on and paused. I think I will try to find a 41 used, blue, fluted on an oyster. Although I am not sure how many fluted 41s will be on oysters bands. Everyone seems to like the jubilee with the 41

I have a DJII and I love it. For me it's perfect. But my suggestion for you would be to buy whichever you personally like better, regardless of the price difference. You are the one who needs to be happy with it and in a year or so the extra money you spent or the extra money your saved probably won't make much difference. If you are real close on your opinion on both, get the II and save some $$ to put towards the next watch
I would suggest that of the two the DJII probably is the one that can go a little more towards casual/sporty while the DJ41 maybe a little more towards dress. But the differences are subtle. My wrist is larger so for my the II works a little better - something else to consider. |

I looked at both and personally decided to go with the DJ II. Although I've read many comments on the boards before from people feeling that the dimensions of the DJ II were just "off", it really sang to me. Now having owned and worn it daily for the last several months, it really is my favorite Rolex.
At the end of the day you need to pick the one you like. But don't rush past the DJ II. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Dilemma over a DateJust
I have the blue stick smooth oyster DJ2 and love it. I tried a DJ41 shortly thereafter and really didn't feel that much of a size difference. In the end, as others have said, buy what sings to you more.

I've owned both and much prefer the 41. Even discounting what I think are the aesthetic improvements the new movement alone is worth the price of admission.

The DJ41 is light years ahead. It is proportioned correctly and looks right whilst the DJ2 is no more than a lump of metal. When you buy a DateJust you want perfection and the DJ41 is perfection with a capital P. It's a total no brainer. Regards Mick |

Lump of metal? I respectfully disagree. Yes, the DJ2 may not be everyone's cup of tea (i.e. Bloated, disproportionate, etc) but variety is a good thing. Heck, as sacrilege as it may sound, I'm not even a fan of the Sub. I briefly considered getting a 5 digit Sub but soon realized it wasn't for me. To me, the Sub is a" lump of metal." Never let money be a decisive factor for a watch this costly. I was gonna go with the dj41 blue dial fluted bezel and jubilee but decided to splurge extra cash on the chocolate dial as it's the one I loved when I first tried on

I've not owned a DJII but did try one on when they first came out. I was impressed but did not want to buy one simply because a jubilee bracelet was not an option. When the DJ41 first came out last year that was a game changer for me! The proportions were better IMO too. I think I have found my perfect (at least for me) Rolex.

If you go back and take an objective view of your post, you've virtually answered your own question.
Despite the attractive price the AD has offered you on the DJII your heart clearly lies with the DJ41 and for all the right reasons visually. Except you omitted the big one and that is the new movement. If you skimp and buy on price you will almost certainly be wondering about the what ifs surrounding the DJ41 and doubts/inevitable regrets about the DJII will linger. They say the price is long forgotten after the joy of ownership has set in, and it's absolutely true. In summary, get the DJ41. Now for the elephant in the room. Which Dial/Bezel/Bracelet combination??? |

I just picked up the DJ41 rhodium / smooth / oyster and love it . I am typically in a tie at work and then in shorts and polo or t-shirt at home. I change out of everything except my watch ... it goes equally well sporty or casual. the new movement makes the nerd in me happy too, although it's not as if the DJII or the 3135 are slouches (or as Mick put it - lump of metal ) ... but you should certainly go with what moves your heart and emotion. Then as soon as you pick that one up, you can start planning your next one

I bought my DJ2's SPECIFICALLY because they were about to be replaced by the DJ41.
I have three in total but two are pictured below. The DJ2 is a fabulous watch as is the DJ41, but the DJ2 has been slandered as being 'bloated' and even called 'out of proportion'. To what exactly? It was a new design for a new age. It wasn't ever supposed to look like a DJ36 but traditionalists didn't like it for those reasons. To my eye, I much prefer the look it offers, but others may not. Different strokes for different folks. I won't be trading mine for any other kind of DJ. If I were you I'd buy the DJ2, buts that's because I did and don't regret my decision one bit. |

Not sure it will help but I owned the DJ II and ended up selling it because I didn't like the proportions. Once I heard the DJ 41 was coming out in stainless steel I was really excited to buy that one. Now if my AD will finally get one in (in the configuration I like) I can contact Thanh and place my order
