None

Watches are not investments. Certainly not any mass produced watches.

Try Sotheby's or Antiquroum for investmane grade watches.

You probably won't lose but you aren't getting much return either. If u want an investment I'd head to Wall Street. If u want an investment watch that will see a nice return get ready to shell out some big bucks but that's still a crap shoot. Who knows what the millennials will want in 40 years. Probably some computer that controls every single aspect of life.

More like best value retention models that may keep up with inflation. Don't expect them to keep with mutual funds or traditional investments. I'm thinking other than Rolex, as I have my share of the sports steel models already. At the same time, I'm nervous of venturing outside Rolex sports due to value retention

Going to be hard to find an invest grade watch in general. Pretty much just pick any watch you like put it in a safe for 50 years and hopefully it goes up.

Don't put money into watches unless you like them.

This is doomed hobby in terms of investment potential as millenials aren't going to put money into watches since they don't care about them...just like stamp collecting is almost dead.

The future millenial money (if they have any LOL!) will not be going towards watches and the values will drop and drop...

Just look at the secondary market now...just a minor decrease in buying in Asia due to a shift in people spending money on experiences instead of luxury goods has put the market for most luxury brands in an absolute tailspin...

Rolex, Patek and a very very select few other references are holding on...who knows how long that will last...

I truly wonder about this. Could you imagine in 15 years walking into a Rolex shop and getting 30% off without asking?

Yes

Inflation and currency devaluation will make this very likely.

Some mistakenly believe that their "investment" has held value or even risen. They are not taking into account what those same dollars would buy in the present.

10000% agree.

I saw somebody talking about how he paid $2.5k for his no date Sub in the mid 90s, now he could sell it for $5.5k, netting him a massive profit of $3k! Didn't want to bust his bubble by mentioning that is practically the exact same buying power when taking into account inflation. Still not bad to wear a watch for that long for 'free', but people are still disillusioned at how much 'profit' they're really making over an extended period of time.

Bingo.

But if you must buy all the 5711 blue dial PP's you can at MSRP and sell immediately.

It is possible that we are now in 1986 stock market wise, esp in the UK where prices and fever are climbing higher, so best to be aware...

Please don't speak on the behalf of my generation. I'm a millennial am extremely passionate about watches. Many of my friends are as well, and have similarly begun collecting.

Very happy to hear that

About a watch for profit under 25k, and non Rolex see only one, Patek 5711, you buy, sell for a 3-5k profit, don't see any other than this really.

Respectfully disagree. I'm 33 and my brother is 23, he and his friends are into watches. He mentioned people at Harvard and Law School are into watches.

If I were forced to buy a watch as a safe queen investment (limited to non-Rolex and $25K) these would be my choices, not necessarily in any order;

Newer: Omega Silver Snoopy, Speedmaster Pro.

Vintage: pre-moon, original hands/correct dot-over-90 bezel, 321 calibre Speedmaster Pro or Ed White Speedmaster. Especially those with correct bracelet and papers.

Oldish: original Snoopy Speedmaster Pro.

IMO, anyway. They aren't making any more of the above, and there will always be enough people out there in love with the Moon Watch in it's manual-wind form to make those a pretty safe bet as much as any Rolex.

Well there will always be exceptions, but overall I don't have a good vibe for the future of any collectible based hobby because of lack of interest by millennials and what comes after....

It's already happened to Stamps. Will it happen to watches?

Hard to compare stamps, baseball cards, coins, etc. to luxury watches in terms of collecting. Watches are luxury items like Hermes handbags with huge marketing budgets. They will market their way into the hearts and minds of younger generations. Rolex is doing a great job with guys like Jordan Speith. Golf is gaining in popularity and rolex is right with it.

I'm a millennial and so are my friends and about half of us are really into watches. Also have some younger millennials (23-25) at my firm and they appreciate watch fine watches but are not at the income level yet to really purchase them. They have 3 or 4 nixon, fossil, etc type watches but they know Rolex, AP, Patek, etc. The bigger problem they have is paying of student debt, buying a house, etc that could prevent them from purchasing luxury items like watches.

I think watches will be strong for many many years to come. However I to think watches like AP, RM and rolex will appeal to the younger generations and companies like Patek, ALS, will have to make sportier models or fall out of favor.

No, because you can't wear stamps. Style will never go out of fashion.

Wrong section of the forum. The only answer for you is possibly a Tudor if you define "non-rolex" narrowly.

This forum needs a new Subforum called "Watch Investment" and an automated response with every possible way to say NO
