Milesbuyer.com

Hi all,

Has anyone used: milesbuyer.com to exchange frequent flyer miles to cash?

I'm growing tired of the options my current FF program offers and simply want the cash. The buyout seems reasonable to me. Just curious is anyone here has used them.

Thanks

What's your program? Deals are to be had check out The Points Guy blog. Really made me rethink the whole travel scene.

I'm with Aeroplan and I used to redeem miles for gift cards but they no longer have AMEX. The deal is 150000 miles for 1650 usd cash which isn't bad IMO.

I just wondered if anyone here has used them to exchange miles for cash

Most programs do not allow you to sell miles so I would be VERY careful with a service like this! I have heard of people loosing all their miles because the sale is typically against the carriers T&C.

One of the more popular miles bloggers recently posted this which is a good recap.

Just completed my transaction with Eli at Milesbuyer.com

Took about 5 minutes for the money to appear in my paypal account. I would highly recommend him to anyone

Just hope you aren't too attached to that AC FF account because if they catch you I am sure they will shut you down and take any remaining points in your account. If you get away with it...great but I would count my blessings and move on. On a side note, I do wonder how much you got for them. I would image at most $0.01 per point or even less.

I got .0127C per mile so $954 CDN for 75000 miles. If you look at it from the rewards standpoint a $500 gift card was costing 65000 miles so I got much better value this way.

As to your point about AC FF "catching me" I guess we shall see. I didn't consider that selling the miles to a third party company like milesbuyer was not allowed. I wouldn't think milesbuyer would be in business if this were the case as they offer the same service for all rewards cards (US and Canada)

Either way I'm happy with the value as AC FF has nothing I want to exchange miles for any more.

Getting 0.0127 per mile is not great but definitely better than doing a gift card. The biggest bang for the points is typically to be found in business and first class international tickets but if you don't have a need for those I can understand your approach. I personally would have just held on to them and saved for a special trip but to each his/her own.
