Vermin. Shame the justice system doesn't allow them to be shot and stabbed when they are caught.

This was in London where it's not exactly an everyday occurrence, I found it quite shocking, especially the violence used.

I read about that today. What is this world coming to if someone is prepared to kill for a watch. May the victim RIP

Shocked and saddened by this. Can't believe what they did for a watch.

32 boroughs in London. Greenwich ranked 13th in terms of murder rate from 2000-2012 with 71 homicides in that time. Unremarkable for what is a large and comparatively safe large city.

Wow that's unfortunate, a crime of circumstance then. That's why I have all my pieces insured. If someone wants to rob me, then here you go sir. It's not worth my life, I don't care what brand or worth of the piece, again it's not worth your life. I hope the DCIs catch these suspects quick before they kill someone else.

Awful, if they wanted the watch I don't understand why they didn't just hit him with a baseball bat - why shoot and stab him?
Even if not insured just hand it over - a Rolex is cheap when compared to a life.....

Sadly, people nowadays get murdered for iphones or less! You would think he was likely followed from bar or something, hard for a passing moped to spot a watch on someone wrist otherwise

if you can afford a rolex, you can afford insurance, and you can therefore afford to give it up when getting mugged

I would never, ever, ever, under any circumstance would refuse to give up my watch. There isn't a damn material thing in the world that is worth more than my life.

Disgusting act. Sad for the man who lost his life.

Insure your watches people.

This is SECOND time in a week Iv'e read a story like this, in fact at a glance I thought it was the same news item. This guy was also shot in front of his wife for his Rolex, in London. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime...-a3596441.html

Thankfully its not so often considering the amount of people that enjoy wearing expensive watches every day in our cities! Like a previous post, I would just hand over - thats why I pay insurance, because these idiots have guns and knives.

TBH: People get killed over the whole world - for nothing. I understand this is a Rolex forum, but let's not loose the perspective. Tragedies occurs on so many levels - regardless involving a Rolex or not.

Thieves and murderes have been around since the begining of time, this is nothing new. In fact, there probably hasn't been a safer time in history to walk the streets without being attacked. Could you imagine any other time that an average person could walk the streets with something on their wrist worth thousands of dollars and for the most part get away with it! it's sad that this happens every now and then, but there are people out there who will attack you for $5, let alone a watch worth thousands!

Not knocking the UK or London but it seems like there is a pattern of Rolex crimes going on there. Don't have any actual data to prove it but I read about quite a few watch related incidents in London. We are no better in the USA, people are killed daily in property crimes for much smaller dollar items than Rolex. A sad state of affairs, unfortunately a worldwide epidemic. Watch thieves at a minimum should have their hands amputated!

I wouldn't give them my watch. But here in the US you can defend yourself if you're licensed to.

Indeed a very sad story and I feel terrible for this gentleman and his family. Even if you choose to surrender your personal property in a robbery there is a very good chance you will be injured or killed by these low life individuals. That is how criminals deal with witnesses. Remain vigilant (not paranoid) and always be aware of your surroundings. As a licensed firearm concealed carry permit holder here in the USA I would not hesitate for an instant to protect myself, friends, or loved ones in a similar situation if I had the opportunity to respond appropriately. Unfortunately in many countries this is not an option.
