Sunburst Dial | As Described By Rolex
I came across a very interesting post on Rolex's Instagram page describing their sunburst dial:
"The blue dial of this Rolex Datejust 41 reveals a palette of nuances ranging from blueish grey to deep navy blue, depending on the viewing angle and the amount of light. This so-called "interference colour" is created by superposing several layers of metal oxides of variable thickness using an advanced physical vapour deposition process (PVD), allowing Rolex to produce dials with unique hues." Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/BXLCVWpB...by=rolex&hl=en This makes me appreciate my Dark Rhodium Oyster Perpetual 39 even more. |

I have the blue dial DJ41. In low light it looks black. Medium light makes it look dark blue. Lots of light makes it light blue.

Looks great, but that's some magical marketing nonsense that only can come up.

Have heard this reference even up to late 90s... "Cartier-blue face" when it's not otherwise a Cartier. (Maybe after then Cartier started making a lot more other colours ) |

I saw that this morning too. Answers a lot of questions about the blue dial on my OP 39... it's a different color from every angle

OP 116000 3-6-9 Arabic dial
Interesting post, It hadn't occured to me before, but owning assorted GMT, Subs and Explorers (black dials) and an Exp II (polar), this sunburst effect probably explains why I'm getting pleasure from and wearing more often my OP 116000 Arabic Blue dial....
