Refurbished Daytona 116500? Yes or no?

Hi everyone. My first actual post but I have an important question. As we all know the wait list for a Steel Daytona is long (3 years in my area). Im being offered a refurbished Daytona 116500 with black dial. Assuming it comes with papers, is in like new condition and full Rolex warranty, should I pull the trigger or wait for a brand new one? I'm primarily concerned with future value among other things. I'm not experienced with buying a refurb as all my watches were brand new from an AD.

Also what things should I be looking out for given it's not brand new. Thanks everyone.

A rather new watch to already be 'refurbished'. I'd be concerned with the source whom is selling the watch.....
There's lots of scammers out there, if you don't know the brand, or the watches well, buy new and from an authorized dealer.

Thanks and I agree however this is coming from a trusted source. I would have no doubts as to its authenticity. Has anyone here had experience with refurbished pieces by a manufacturer?

Define refurbished. What has been done to the watch?
The watch would be not be more than a few months old, so other than a polish, it should not have needed any movement service...

My thoughts. What exactly means refurbished in this context?

If the source can prove that the watch came back from a Rolex Service Center I think that could work. Anything else, I would be extremely cautious.

Thanks, that would be the only circumstance for which I would take it...properly serviced by an RSC. Otherwise, it's a definite no-go for me.

The root of my question though is, say it was properly serviced by Rolex with all supporting documentation and is in great condition...would you go with it or wait it out to get a brand new piece, which could be a couple of years out.

If it's serviced by Rolex, with all documentation, why not?
The real question is, why is a the watch serviced already? Was it dropped, was it not working to spec, all a concern to me on such a new watch, that's only released a few moths back.

As far as I know, Rolex doesn't make factory refurbished pieces so I'm not sure what you mean by a "manufacturer refurbished piece"

Could possibly be just a part or few parts. For example, someone could've dropped it on his kitchen tile floor and cracked the crystal or ceramic bezel... or even broke off a chrono pusher. He could've taken it into RSC to get either or both pieces replaced. I consider that refurbished, but I still wouldn't take it because who knows what else happened internally.

Also, a "full Rolex warranty" doesn't sound exactly right.

Too many unanswered questions that do not make sense.

It is has been "refurbished" by whom?
It is not "new" or even "like new".
The warranty was active when the watch was sold so it would have the balance remaining.
What is the offering price to take this off someone's hands?

If you are truly concerned about "future value" I would want one that has not been molested.

Sounds a bit dodgy imho. There is serious money being spent here, I would wait it out and get a new one,from an AD, and then it's you that makes the history to the watch.

I'm skeptical of why a fairly new watch would be serviced or refurbished. That would make me leery. I'm also a believer in the old adage that "if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't true". If the price is crazy below market price, I'd suspect a scam or older Daytona that has been altered. Do your due diligence before buying.

This is a tough crowd. I had a GMT that leaked (my fault) so got a new dail and movement. Done at Rolex NY, still is/was a Rolex just a rehab.

That is not refurbished, that is warranty service.

I don't think it has necessarily been serviced, not everybody knows ss Daytonas are rare. The owner may have been a VIP who then decided against the watch and returned it to buy a gold daytona. The paperwork filled out in his name. The AD can't sell it as new so sells it as refurbished.
Maybe, maybe not but I would ask the reason for the refurbishment or if it was sent to Rolex.

How can a Daytona ceramic watch be classed as rare, would estimate there are a thousand plus already in this world today, true they are hard to get at retail but rare no.

OP you haven't made your post clear at all hence why I think you've got the answer you have. You need to make it clear what you mean by refurbished. I.E. what was done and why it was done.

I've never heard of a refurbished Rolex before. If you aren't insistent on a brand new SS DaytonaC by playing the waiting game or paying the premium, you might be able to save some money by buying like-new/used here on TRF which is the route I would take over refurbished. Always buy the seller, not just the watch.
