Is this insanity? Experts needed please

I'll get straight to the point: I've been offered 1,800$ and a brand new Datejust 41mm two tone for my SD43. Now I know the resell value on a datejust is no where near a Rolex sports model but I REALLY like the datejust and I figure I might as well take advantage of the sd43 hype while it's still hot. Would I be totally insane for making this trade?

The resell value of the SD43 will settle at 20-25% below MSRP, it always does. And trends for larger watches is downwards so it might be more (like the DSSD which sells for 30% less than MSRP used). Now, I don't know what a TT DJ41 is worth used...

The only thing you don't know is the only thing you can actually check the market value on, lol. There are at least a dozen TT DJ41s on watchrecon.

If i had to guess, I tend to agree with everything you said, however that is a (keyword) guess. How can you know what the resell value will be like? Yes, we know distribution seems to be strong and steady (especially compared to a daytona or SS sky-D, but it's totally possible the SD43 could be a watch you never see on the shelves. Similar to the D-Blue. Not ultra-rare but hard to find. If that's the case the secondary market value will be right around MSRP +/-.

Another theory kicking around is that the SD43 50th anniversary will be a short run, followed up by a standard SD43 with all white writing. I'm not saying I think that will happen, but if it did, the red line SD43 price will obviously sky rocket!

The trade is in the favor of the other party, which you already know, but I don't think it's too, too slanted. Premiums for the SD43 are already starting to fall. If you like the Datejust, do it!

While I like the DJ 41, not a fan of the two-tone, and I prefer the SD43

So you're not entertaining the SS DJ + $5000 anymore? Every few days you're changing your mind, I said it before and I'll say it again.....cool down a little bit and think what you really want......

X2. Keep the Red SD. Why do you want to let it go OP?
If I was contemplating trading/selling my 43, it wouldn't be for a DJ.

Your call, of course, but if it is your only piece I would keep the SD43. It looks a tad big on you, I'd say get a regular no date Sub instead and save some money :-)

I would sell the SD43 and take your time and figure you what you really want...
you can probably do better on the purchase of a DJ41 than the one that is being offered...

Sell 126600 for what you paid. Then rethink things. You can do better than 1800.

The DJ + $5000 would be more even. You could sell the SD43 for $11,000 in a heartbeat.

Me, I'd keep the SD43 because I enjoy sport watches more than dressier variants. I'm intrigued by some of the DJs but wouldn't trade any of my sports watches for one. I'd add one if I took the leap.

I know I should, but that white dial is so crispy clean! Lol... it would definitely be a keeper if I did it.

Yes, but chances are it'll depreciate much faster than the 43. Why don't just save up and add the DJ?. Of course, your choice all the way.

Tough decision, but if you really like the DJ41 TT, try to get more than 1800 in the trade.

Realistically (based off your info & the Grey Market value), about $2500.

Well you've put REALLY like the DJ41 in caps so I'd go for that, the rest is just money talk.

So I'm guessing you came to the conclusion, even after your post, that the SD43 is a tad too bit for your liking.

Do the trade before the resell for the SD43 drops even further and you're left with a watch you don't love wearing.

Keep the SD43. I think getting your hands on a DJ at a good price later on is in the cards for you.

Money I think is good. Davidsw has the exact watch your looking at for 9875, you would maybe get 10,500 on trade for SD, so 1800 to you is a great deal. You could probably sell on your own and get maybe retail at thos point but even if you got 12k your still a push on what your already getting back. If you love the 43 then do it
