Authorized dealer said no discount?

Is this true? I contacted my local dealer about a 28mm Rolex datejust TT with Gold bezel and diamond Dial. On the phone I said give me the best price, but they said since they are authorized dealer, they cant discount it. But they also said come in store and I will see what I can do. So can I get a discount or no? And I am in Canada is that does anything

You should be able to get some discount, if you go into the store...most, if not all, ADs will not negotiate over the phone.

They will under no circumstances discuss that on the phone. Drive to your AD and have the conversation in person.

There is no set "discount" on any piece but that particular piece (if in stock) may be an item they want to move.

It is against Rolex policy to sell over the phone, let alone give a discount over the phone. You must be a previous customer who visited the store for them to deal over phone.

They are just following policy. Rolex does "shop" stores and has taken AD status away for policy violations like this.

Why is this? Do Rolex employ people,to phone ADs to make sure they do not Discount?

I guess AD's don't like to get played out against each other.
A serious customer in the store ready to buy can probably haggle a little.

That's what I figured too, but it just didn't happen. I guess it has something to do with the fact that my local AD is actually a chain store with many shops on the east coast.

That sounds like if you show up and have done your homework, you may be able to score a deal.

Good luck,

They can't discuss over phone, text, or email any discounts. They will discount that model I'd put money on it. Drop in.

Out of curiosity what is 'normal' for a Rolex discount on a non-unique watch (e.g. DJ41)? I'm sure there are a lot of factors that go into it but a range helps. Also, let's assume US.

TIA

There is no normal discount.

You should be able to get at least 10% off on a common Datejust watch.

What if the AD ordered the watch from Rolex because it wasn’t in stock? Any opportunity for a discount there? How has this rule help up in 2020-2021 with the low stock?

They told me per ROLEX policy, they are not suppose to discuss pricing over the phone. Not suppose to sell you the watch over the phone unless you are a old customer of the store.
Price listed are just "suggested retail". I personally think it is "BS" when AD tells you that Rolex will not allow them to give discount, especially on the Sport Series. They can charge you the retail and give you cash back if they really are afraid Rolex will find out. They are all just using that as an excuse to make more money.
But back to your on the Datejust. I am sure you can get some discount. Every dealer that I have gone to said they can work out a deal on DJ.

They'll never give a discount over phone, gotta go in person. But from what I've seen here, they usually start with "they'll cover the taxes" for Two Tone models (15% off here in Montreal) without much effort, but I've seen people get 20-25% off

Hard to get a discount currently on the popular SS models

For any not in demand watch (i.e. "difficult to get") you should be able to get 10% off without much argument. More than that will depend on the store, the manager, your negotiating skills, their inventory, the time of the month and the watch. You would likely do better than that (without much work) on PM and/or diamond watches.

I always recommend buying used, but hey, someone has to buy them new so that there's a used market...

They definitely won't do anything over the phone. They don't know you from a spy at Rolex checking up on them. Go in to the AD, be prepared to buy and ask them " if I was to make the purchase right now, what is the lowest possible price"? You may also get them to throw in something like a watch winder or other goodies. But you have to make nice with them. That is what my AD does for me. I will take whatever freebies I can get. Good luck and be sure to post pictures when you have your new acquisition.

On that model in Canada I would aim for a 25% discount. First time buyer so maybe settle for 20.

Aim for at least 20% for sure as 28mm size in not high demand, let alone Rolex datejust TT with Gold bezel. Tag Alikara at www.rolexforums.com/member.php?u=138560 as he might be able to help you in Canada.

My local AD also said that prices are set by Rolex and are non-negotiable. If they had come anywhere close to 20% off I would have already purchased.

Absolutely correct for this model IMO.
