All for mods on certain watches but don't think this works on this , do you want it to be a GMT an explorer or a Exmaster ?.

The OPs mod is quite literally a 16710 GMTII with a few characters of font changing position on the dial.
I've seen this done before with the Polar dial but not sure the mod being done with the black dial makes sense.

I think it looks good, regardless of the motivation for doing it. Turned out nice

From a distance looks just like my gmt master. But why would you mod explorer if what you want is gmt? Just my subjective opinion

A subtle mod - really, just the dial text is different

Does the coke bezel on your mod rotate like the GMT II? If so, is it 'stepped' by hour (my only experience is with my BLNR so am not sure how other GMT model bezels are stepped).

I think it's pretty neat to mod Rolexes, within reason. I like this mod.

I am unclear on the motivation myself, I'm kind of a purist but it is his watch so he has a right to do as he pleases, only... Why not just get a GMT?

This makes a lot of sense to me. You can buy mint explorers at low prices (compared to 16710's), even choose one with a 3186 movement. Get a watchmaker to change the dial and install a GMT II bezel and you have saved yourself thousands. Plus it's much easier to source mint explorer II's. A thumbs up from me.

I'm generally not a fan of modding watches, but I think that looks nice. If anything, it shows how undervalued the black-dialed 16570 Explorer II's are. It's basically a GMT Master II with a non-rotating steel bezel.

I'm a big believer in doing what's right for you and to hell with the critics/pundits. Mods like this are not for me, but who cares? There are no gaps or jagged edges. Everything fits together beautifully so I say well done!

why? because he felt like it. His watch and he owes no explanation.
Some people like to experiment, some people feel safer doing what they're told.
I think the GMT looks fantastic, this looks like a GMT so it looks great too.

Brian is right, it's his watch, he may do as he likes. My opinion is not needed or relevant.

But if anyone were to ask:

I was a little confused at first but as others have said the prices of 16710s are way higher than a comparable Explorer II. Gives the look and functionality of a GMT with a smaller hit to the old pocketbook. I would imagine it would be very easy to reverse it back if need be.

I'll ask why as well - and here's why:

The 16570 case does not have a hole for the click spring to the GMT bezel insert for bi-directional rotation, so either this GMT insert is just spinning around the 16570 case or it is fixed. Either way; this mod is not functional - other than pure aesthetics.

You can drill it in a minute.
