Any toyota or honda folks?
Well, our life is dominated by children. 2 boys (age 4, 6), and their activities... need to get more space out of our vehicle.
Any experience with Vans? Looking at odyssey vs. sienna. If you have any pro/cons please share. I know this is not super "cool" on the rolex forum... Mrs. & I are not thrilled but need more room. The SUVs are crazy expensive! Suburban > 75K... yikes!

tbh I have been having lots of little issues with my 2016 Toyota Avalon. Considering selling it with losing 10k in value for one year. Nissan Armada is interesting, I might move that direction next...

A buddy of mine swears by the Sienna, after cross-shopping the Odyssey. I don't think you can go wrong and it comes down to your personal preference.

We don't get the Sienna downunder, only Tarago/Estima/Previa.
Odyssey is nice but probably higher price is pushing buyers towards Kia Grand Carnival, I see a lot more on the roads than Odyssey. When I passed local Honda dealer recently their most volumous model looked like Civic & CRV. I'm sniffing around soccermommobiles lately... only thing personally interesting is Nissan Elgrand which we can access as a used JDM import. Ton of fruit inside, nice drivetrain only matched by a V6 Odyssey. It's outside is hideous to some though... |

I am a lifelong Honda enthusiast... never a minivan though... gotta figure, both makes will last the entire upbringing of the kids, if taken care of.

Been at that stage myself and owned an Odyssey.
That thing was bullet proof. I put 410,000 KM on it over an 11 year period. All I ever did was change tires and brakes. Seriously, nothing else. It even had original exhaust when I finally traded it in |

Owned 2 different gen odysseys. New gen just came out. Just waiting for the initial quality issues to be sorted out and will probably buy a new one next year. Can't beat van for ease of storage and moving people. |

My parents are on their second Odyssey. They had their first Odyssey for years. They did a lot of grandkid stuff, hauled a lot of hockey gear and musical instruments, and had almost 200,000 miles on it from a gobzillion road trips.
They traded that one in for a new model last year and are still doing the great grandkid stuff, as well as hauling dad's gold clubs and all the junk they travel with on monthly road trips during college football season. IMO, it's the Prius of minivans, not something you want to be seen in, but the best thing on the road for what it does. |

If you like SUVs there are a ton of them that don't cost upward of 75k and will be more reliable than the somewhat dodgy Suburban. Not as huge as a Suburban but still has 3rd row seating is the Lexus GX460. Those start at $50k and are bullet proof. Also, the Lexus RX350 is really nice inside, very plush and comfortable, very nice ride. $45-50k.
I'd recommend the Pilot but Honda just restyled it and made it look like a minivan. Might as well get the Odyssey. |

No they don't. An optioned out GX is $68k max and they start in the mid $50k range for a base model but Lexus has some great rebates on them right now because there is a refresh coming next year.
Maybe you're thinking of the LX570? Although, those start at around $89k. |

Out of the two Sienna also take a look at Kia Sedona, because it has the best van warranty.

My wife is on her second Acura MDX with about 55k miles on it, and we both love that vehicle. Total reliability with routine maintenance, good gas mileage, and a ton of useable interior space for a vehicle of its size. Definitely handles more like a car than most American SUVs, which I prefer. We have two boys, 4 and 8, as well as a small dog and do frequent trips with sufficient space for luggage. The dog even has his own safety bed and occupies the second row, thus booting the 8-y/o to the rear row for longer trips away from his pestering little brother, and they all love it this way.

With only 2 kids I don't think you need a minivan, a bit overkill. I would suggest the 4Runner if you want something more "cool" or Highlander if that doesn't matter. I have both and they are great cars.

We've used a number of Odysseys as fleet vehicles and I've noticed three problems that have surfaced on several of ours:
1) The power steering kits are prone to leak. 2) The front boots haven't proved very durable 3) The front end spoilers get caught up on parking stops and curbs. And because of the 'soft' front end, it all starts to pull apart rather easily. Engine-wise, however, I have nothing but good things to report. We've had to do little other than regular maintenance. There are also several annoying blind spots with the Odyssey, in particular, when trying to see what lies just beyond the front fenders.

Any toyota or honda folks?
We are Infiniti fans and have had several. Our current family mover is the QX60. Very roomy, more than enough power and reliable. We like it a lot.
Loaded it was less than $60K. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My Toyota is literally leaking water from a rear trunk vent. It's so annoying. The air conditioning rattles when it is hot. The keys broke in my pocket. It rattles to a degree that it is concerning, lots of the interior pieces had manufacture defects in it including the shift surround. It's actually been very disappointing and Toyota almost always seems to indicate the issues are not warranty issues at first. Granted it hasn't skipped timing or something but for a Toyota, which I buy to be problem free, I can't recommend or consider another one.
If you are considering a Toyota I would consider a used one from 2008'ish. |

I'd suggest taking a look into a used Tahoe/Suburban...
My wife and I have our first coming and have been looking into Tahoes as my wife (and me) said she would never be seen in a minivan Good luck

Don't count out the Honda Pilot. Three row seating a real snappy 3.5 V6 and you can get into the Elite trim with AWD with a 9 speed auto for $46Gs.

I'm biased...I'm the GM of a Toyota dealership! Truthfully the Sienna and the Odyssey are both great choices. You can't go wrong with either. Go drive both and see which one you like better. Cheers!

My wife refused a minivan (thank God) so a few months ago we bought a 2014 Honda Pilot Touring (top trim) with 45k on the odometer for a little more than half the original MSRP of 42K!

Any toyota or honda folks?
We have had about all of them. My wife hated the minivans but they serve a purpose. Had 2 GX460's and they can be had in the mid 60's new. The one in the link has every option known to man. Great vehicles, one of our favorites. Had a LX570 and it was a lemon. Had 2 MDX and liked them, the RDX was a turd.
The big problem with the domestic SUV's to me was that their prices have caught up to/eclipsed the high end imports. And their quality has not. Though the resale has been pretty decent, kinda. Wife currently drives a 2015 suburban LTZ with about every option. MSRP new was $74,000. We bought used by about a year. Some guys wife wanted a different color. The Chevy dealer GM that I am friends with called when they were bidding the car as he needed a little more $ on trade to make his new deal. I gave him $52,000 for it. Had 12,000 miles. Original owner bought when it was 16% off rebate plus got supplier pricing so he didn't lose too bad and we bought it for $4000 back of the cheapest other one I could find. And the wife loved the crystal red color. She however was not impressed when I bought a Bluebird sticker to put on the back. I have to admit it has been in the shop a fair amount. Has a water leak it took 3 trips and several parts to find and we still don't think it's resolved. But it is a super vehicle. People poke fun at them but to have the extra room is awesome. We have a 15 and 13 year old so we by no means "need" the size but have had it packed many times for road trips to Niagara, Toronto, Nashville and Smokey Mountains.
