Advice please! - another DJ question!

Hi all,

I've searched and searched the threads, but thought I'd ask you all!

I am turning 40 this month, and am looking at getting a Datejust to celebrate (most likely new).

I'm still undecided between the original 36 and the new 41.
I've tried both the SS (blue face) and TT (champagne and silver face) on (both with fluted bezel and jubilee) and they are both very nice!! I'm still undecided.

In my current collection, I have an Omega PO XL 8500, Omega Speedmaster Pro and Submariner Date, all with SS bracelets and black face.

Was wondering what your thoughts are in terms of next purchase.

I'm kind of leaning towards the classic 36 with TT, but was wondering if the SS is less blingy. I do, however, already have a few SS in the collection. My buddy is suggesting doing new 41 TT, but for some reason I keep coming back to the 36.

Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated!

Thanks everyone!!
Niven

Unless you have very small wrists, why would you choose a 36mm over a 41mm? I would go with the DJ41 because of the size and the new 3235 movement with the 72 hour power reserve. I own one and wear it daily. No way I would trade it for a 36. Sure, it will cost you a little more, but not a huge amount, and price should never be the determining factor. Get the DJ41.

What made you choose the SS over the TT? Just preference I guess?

Having tried on the DJ41 recently and owned around 4 36mm in the past I would without doubt go for DJ41, the slight tweaks from the DJ2 make it perfect on the wrist I would say. I intend on adding DJ41 soon.

Wow! Thanks for the replies!

I thought everyone would say "Go for the 36 since it is the classic DJ size"!

You all are definitely right about the new movement/power reserve!

I wouldn't even hesitate on going with the 41. It's not just size, the new movement is spectacular.

36mm for me, they messed up the jubilee on the 41 in my personal opinion with the new clasp...tried it on and thought it looked like poop. Hidden clasp on the 36 is where it's at.
If I went oyster bracelet, the white dial 41 would be the one.

Buy what you want, which from your post seems to be the DJ 36. It is nicer, perfectly balanced and clean aesthetics. What do you need 7o hours of power reserve for? Aren't you going to wear the watch? You also don't get concealed clasp with DJ41, and that compliments the Jubilee so nicely. TT would be a very nice choice.

Spot on. The 36mm DJ is aesthetically pleasing and just perfect - classic and elegant. The 41mm looks wrong to me and out of proportion. The concealed clasp on the 36mm Jubilee looks great and is such a nice feature. The earlier comment that only people with small wrists would chose the 36mm is not one with which I agree.

IMHO I vote for the 36. When I want a bigger wrist presence, I wear a sport model or a chronograph. Two-tone vs. all-white is a difficult question: I have both. The TT is a little flashier, and sometimes that's a good thing.

For a DJ I have always liked the TT. Though I don't have one, my wife does.

Go for the TT, like you said you have some SS already.. this will be a beautiful piece..

The question is YG or RG?

TT with silver dial is beautiful though.. anyone know if you can get the silver dial with diamonds? I don't see it on the website but my AD said he can order one in, I think he must be mistaken.

I just received my blue tt 36mm today. Love it. I have small wrists tho. It's pretty understated even with the gold. I kind of wish the gold lettering on the dial popped a little more against the blue. You have to look pretty close to see it.

I tried on both on Saturday each was a white stick smooth bezel with an oyster. I love the 36mm dial and roulette wheel hands down and the 41 was a tad to big and just looked kind of dead if you know what I mean, but the 36 felt a bit small when on the wrist. So it's been said here many times "if you don't love it don't buy it". So I guess I'll be a one watch guy for now.

I have a SS sub & I'm looking into getting rid of my Cartier Calibre Diver ALDC for a Planet Ocean Deep Black, so a similar start to your collection once that's complete.

My next outright purchase is also going to be a DJ. I'm a fairly big guy, so a 36mm DJ just looks out of place on me and I like 126334 much better.

If you have a PO XL and it wears nicely, there is no chance in hell youre going to like how the 36mm wears, imo of course.

You need the blue face, jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel to round out your collection.

Just my .02

You say you keep coming back to the 36. You have answered your own question. The key is to get what YOU really want. Congrats and post pictures.

36 for me in that I couldn't get used to the huge bezel on the 41 and a jubilee bracelet with a clasp that looks out of place and an afterthought. TT is cool on a DJ IMHO.

Being used to my old 16233 DJ36 TT with SS "sticky-outy" clasp, the new Oysterclasp with Easylink 5mm comfort extension is, for me, an improvement as it's now TT too, has the 5mm extension, plus two other adjustment settings in the bracelet to allow for fine adjustment.

The concealed Crownclasp on the new DJ36 is indeed very nice to behold, as on my wife's DJ31, but there is no fine adjustment or easy extension, only the removal of whole links.

So, it's function over form (DJ41) aimed at men, or form over function (DJ28, 31, 36) aimed at women.

Oh... and don't forget the jubilee links on the DJ41 extend right up to the bezel. For just a little more "form" than the smaller DJs...

If you have the 45mm PO then a 36mm DJ is a world away, I'd bridge that gap with a DJ41.

This was my point above too. IDK how someone can comfortably wear the PO 45.5 and also comfortably wear any 36mm watch.
