Whats the most blatent 'bending of the truth' you've heard from an AD salesman?

Maybe not an outright lie. Unless it was, well blatant!

I ask after reading up on the new 'TT' Black Bay. The lack of clarity around its 'gold jacketing' got me wondering - I wonder how many salespeople will sell it as a (solid) gold and steel watch...

Have you ever called a salesperson out?

I overheard a "salesperson" telling another customer that Frederique Constant watches were actually owned and maunfactured by Patek

That the customer really should buy the new Tag Heuer Carerra as it's a "superb investment" and "holds its money"

I've also been told this when looking at Tag Heuer by the sales advisor.

I've actually not heard too many lies (or truth bends) from ADs, but I've heard a lot of really stupid things. Most of which are not truth, but for the most part I don't think they knew any better.

I'd say the majority of dumb things I've heard from a sales rep took place at Tourneau, Huntington NY.

whoops, just put tourneau on blast (as the kids say lol)!

I heard a salesman at the bvlgari store at aria mall tell me:

1) Rolex only makes two bracelets.
2) New Rolex always have their PCLs.
3) then imply my old gmt 16710 wasn't worth much.

i thought he must hate his job or there are cultural differences. that being said the RM and AP botiques at aria are awesome. RM has great service.

That the 116610LV is a limited edition and that only select ADs and boutiques can get them.

Given the ridiculous 'non' availability in the UK I don't think they were far from the truth..

I was told that a particular watch made me look 10 years younger. Complete BS that watch makes me look at least 15 years younger.

That is actually debatable. some say the individual QC does take a year and Hodinkee did also report the factory says it takes a year for a Rolex to leave the factory...

I enquired at a London boutique for a BLNR & SubC date model. Salesperson told me "oooooh very unlikely sir, the don't come in that often, I can add you to our list, around 1-3years wait" I said no thanks.

Just about to leave when a gentleman walked in with a Platona on his wrist he went to one of the sales people and said "your manager rang me today that a BLNR came in, and asked if I want it. Well I'm here now, and I want it" I stood there as he purchased the watch!!!! The person who tended me went bright red after the look I gave him. I was annoyed but my god that was some sweet justice that he was talking to BS me.

Surprised the salesperson cared at all. That's the sad reality of how the world works. A friend just purchased a white Daytona C by walking in to his jeweler and asking. I am on numerous lists and "#1-5" at a bunch of them but can't get the damn thing. If you're a serious spender, the watch is in the safe ;)

That is quite the story, and definitely sweet justice at the end.

This is superb!

Also as for the belief that hard-to-get pieces are often actually already sitting in the safe at the back already waiting for the high rollers to come in, it might be worth permanently camping in my AD, drinking their free coke all day long, and waiting for them to sell the watch they don't have while I am around lol

After knocking the bezel off my sub I couldn't find the spring so rang my AD who informed me it now needed a pressure test as per Rolex policy, as well as a new spring! Made a quick call to St James and the AD was put firmly in place and a new spring minus pressure test was fitted cost £27 if I recall.
BTW Stand by on the flank "Royal"
