Anybody else... (sell Rolex and buy Apple)?

I'm contemplating selling my 2 Rolex watches (116610LV and 16570) and acquiring an Apple watch instead. I've owned a Rolex for probably 10 years and love them but often think about living a "simpler" life. I would use the money to pay off my car and keep it until the wheels fall off. Heck, I wouldn't have to insure the Apple watch!

Does anybody else think life would be "simpler" with only one (less expensive) watch?

Knowing me, I'd sell my Rolexes and regret it. I may try only wearing an Apple watch and store my Rolexes for a couple weeks and see how I feel...I could always return the Apple watch.

I sold 3 rolexes. I really regret selling them to different degrees. I would just buy an Apple Watch.

Well, I was given an Apple watch. I used it once, as I didn't want to charge it every 18 hours to tell me what time it was. It's sitting in my drawer. I would rather have a cheap quartz if your goal is simplification.

You're going to sell something that retains value and use that money to pay off something that will be worth almost nothing (the car) in a few years? I'm curious, what is the interest rate on your car loan and how much longer do you have to pay it off?

My car loan is 1.9% interest and I have about 2 more years.

That’s a pretty low rate on short term debt. You’re only going to save a few hundred bucks by paying it off early but I’m sure you know that. If you aren’t strapped for cash I would just pay off the car by continuing to make the monthly payments.

If you’re done with the watches that’s cool too. Let us know how you like that Apple gadget if you end up getting one.

Simple life is good. I’ve been wearing my 16710 exclusively for about 3-4 months now. No regrets. Maybe I’ll pair down. Apple Watch just doesn’t do it do for me.

A year or two ago I tried this and ended up buying my 114060 back. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Apple watches are awesome, but buy what your heart wants not what your head wants.

I actually got rid of my Apple Watch and one of my old project cars to save up for a Bluesy.

With an Apple Watch (newest one as an example), you have something that can have a screen display like any watch you'd like, can make phone calls and read texts, and notify you of regular reminders.

I thought this would simplify things for me as I work in compliance with a logistics company handling furniture. Turns out all it did was add more stress and clutter to my life.

With a Rolex, you get a miniature vacation.

Marvel at the fine craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Enjoy the relaxing ambience of gentle or brisk winding of the crown.
Think of how despite all ups and downs in life, you were still able to acquire an iconic masterpiece that others are often jealous of.
Once you indulge in these and many other features stimulating your senses, you realize only a few fleeting moments have passed-- yet you have that extra vigor comparable to awakening from a light nap.

....or you can be awoken by a flurry of texts from people and phone calls right when you're trying to have some sort of R&R, find out there's a glitch preventing you from answering message properly because the fit monitor was triggered by your frustrations, throw your Apple Watch across the room like a child throwing his first alarm clock, then quickly picking up the pieces hoping your custom Hermes armband at least absorbed some of the shock.

Unless you are a fitness buff, I don't get the point of an apple watch. Even then, a fitbit is smaller and more comfortable. Sometimes it's nice to leave my phone away from me for a few hours.
