49 days, 21 hours, 13 minutes, not that I was counting...

Just received my 16700 back from the Rolex Service Center after a routine full service. Talk about an anxious 7 weeks; I felt like a kid again waiting around for Christmas!

This watch has gotten the lion's share of wrist time over the past few years, so it was actually somewhat refreshing to reconnect with a few other watches over the past weeks - Speedmaster Pro and a pair of Sistem51s saw lots of action in the GMT's absence.

Awesome job, Rolex Service Center! The completed product was well worth the wait.

Got any questions about Rolex service? I'm happy to share my experience.

I bought it pre-owned about 3 years ago, and this is the first time I have sent it for service. The watch visually looked recently-polished when I purchased it, but prior servicing could not be confirmed by the previous owner.

Dallas Service Center, and yes, I had it polished. It now looks BRAND NEW.

I know there is a contingent here that dislikes polishing watches of this vintage and older, but I could not be happier with the result.

Yes, sent back essentially as shown... though the watch was secured down inside the foam insert. Paperwork/receipt, 2-year warranty card, Rolex pouch and polishing cloth, feedback survey postcard, and service/shipping box, included with the watch.

Did you have components replaced? How does it look on your wrist? I know when my 16710 was sent off for service I also "wasn't counting" the 6 weeks and four days it took for it to come back.

Aside from the crown and seals that I understand are replaced as standard, no other components were changed. The quote I received "recommended" replacement of the hands and dial, but I opted out of those services in order to keep everything original.

I think it looks great on my wrist, but I'm probably slightly biased. I'll try to post a couple more pictures later.

Did you deal directly with the service center or go thru an AD? You mentioned a quote, did that happen before or after you sent the watch in? How did you receive the quote, mail, email, phone?

I worked directly with the Dallas RSC. After contacting the RSC (contact details on Rolex website), they emailed me instructions on packaging and shipping. I (Registered) mailed the watch in specifying the requested service, and about 2 weeks later received an email quote for services. The quote included the standard service/refinishing and additional recommended service, like replacing the dial and hands. Rolex followed up with a call to discuss the options, and I confirmed the services I wanted by email.

A few weeks later, once the service was complete, RSC emailed me a service invoice and again called to confirm completion and to secure payment via credit card. Other payment options included mailing a check or wiring funds, I believe.

The watch shipped two days later via Registered Mail and I received it within a week.

Did they give a reason other than "recommended" replacement of the dial and hands? I just sent my 16710 to Dallas RSC as well. I have not received a quote yet.

On the quote is a section where RSC captures the "Watch Condition," and there it showed both "Hands scratched" and " Dial spotted/scratched," which I'm sure led to these recommendations.

I've never spotted these imperfections, prior to servicing or now, even under a 30x jeweler's loop, so I assume that RSC uses greater magnification in assessing the condition of each watch. That, or perhaps the imperfections are only visible once the watch is disassembled.

Congrats, your watch looks great! My Y-serial, 16710 is at the Dallas RSC at this very moment getting a full service minus a case and bracelet polish. I should be getting a call around the end of this month, and I can't wait to get it back!

It's always nice to get back a "new" watch again. Always hard waiting for sure, but worth it in the end. This is why Rolex's last forever!
Nice piece for sure. Enjoy it in good health.

Looks awesome! My Dad has the same watch and went 15 years without servicing it. He wore it digging holes in the garden, cutting down trees, etc. Gotta love Rolex...
