Saw this at the Patek Phillipe Salon........

in London.
Its a 5074R and its complications are a Minute Repeater and a Perpetual Calendar.
Its the most expensive watch that I have ever seen,it even beats the Rolex GMT ICE.
The photo does not do this watch true justice. It is stunning.
And we were allowed to hear the Minute Repeater sounding.
And more importantly its for sale at a snip over £300,000 ($488,970)
What credit crunch.
Are there any takers.

A repeater - how cool for a mechanical watch.

I forgot to mention.
The photos are of a Y/G and not a R/G.
The R/G comes with a black dial and its beautiful.

A repeater is a complication in a mechanical watch or clock that audibly chimes the hours and often minutes at the press of a button. There are many types of repeater, from the simple repeater which merely strikes the number of hours, to the minute repeater which chimes the time down to the minute, using separate tones for hours, quarter hours, and minutes. They originated before widespread artificial illumination, to allow the time to be determined in the dark,[1] and were also used by the visually impaired. Now they are mostly valued as expensive novelties by watch and clock enthusiasts. Repeaters should not be confused with striking clocks or watches, which do not strike on demand, but merely at regular intervals. (Thank you, Wikipedia)

That said, is there anything about this watch that really (and I mean REALLY) is worth the price they're asking? Just thought I'd ask.......

Thanks Dick. It's amazing how they can put so many little things into such a watch. That's why I love watch.

In my opinion, nothing could make a new wristwatch worth this much...

Dick & asadtiger
Imo you are both probably right with what you say.

You could say that about a S/S Daytona is it really worth very $10,000
But we still keep on paying it.Does that make them any different to those customers who pay £300,000 for a 5074 are usually very rich, were this kind of money is not an issue.

Everything needs to be kept in perspective.

A repeater is like a little set of gongs, they have to be fine tuned and the acoustics of the case have to just right too.

Getting the power train to power both the striking mechanism and the watch at the same time is also a challenge.

To date, there are only a handful of the major brands making repeaters. Those made by independents like Kari Voutilainen, Philippe Dufour, F.P.Journe etc are nigh on unattainable in terms of rarity (actual numbers made) and price. For example, the FP Journe repeater is in stainless steel and costs a cool CHF70,000.00++ and is only made to order.

It's a beautiful watch. Even if I had the money, there would be a cut-off where, I would believe I did not have a right to own it, due to all of the people that could be helped with that kind of money. This is a multi-millionaires watch.
