Buyer's Remorse

I am really close to purchasing the SS GMT-IIc. I am just a bit nervous about laying down that type of cash. The most I have have every spent on a watch before this was $600 on a Gucci (don't laugh - I didn't know any better back then) and that was 10 yrs ago when I was 26. Please tell me about your holy cow what have I just done stories. Thanks!

Bottom line, if you can afford it, go for it. If you are debt heavy or have any debt outstanding forget it.

Absolutely no regrets. If you are getting a good price (i.e. shopping from some of the great TRF members in here), you can't go wrong. If you hate the watch (which you won't --- you'll love it), you can always turn back around and sell it. Try doing that with a Gucci. That's the beauty behind the Rolex brand --- awesome watch and if you don't like it, sell it ... like cash in the bank (making interest).

Let me give you my "earthly and worldly" reply: life is short. But, then, again, you're still young. You still have many, many years of enjoying life. So, what's the worry? Start enjoying life, now. Ergo, buy the Rolex watch!

Not sure I agree with "If you are paying cash". If somebody decides to finance it, or take a loan, that's no big deal. Personal choice of course - but it depends on financial situation. If you have enough disposable income to easily cover the finance, is it worth waiting x years to save up the cash so you can walk in and buy it, knowing that it means you have to live without the watch for that period of time - especially given the current low % rates due to the global market! Not wanted to start a debate about credit vs cash, but I wouldn't let that influence my decision as much as the other stuff.

No regrets here. I waited over a year to get my GMTIIc, and it is the best money ever spent on a watch. Buyers remorse only occurs when you buy something stupid like a wedding ring!

My Holy shit was working for a big name company that wasn't paying me shit then leaving and starting a new career in 2003 which paid me much more $. Then getting a letter in the mail for a class action lawsuit filed by a former manager of said company and signing on that dotted line to gladly opt in. Here's the holy shit, 4 months later I got a check in mail to go buy my SS Gmt IIc with cash and plenty left in my pocket. Best payback I and a few thousand others got from that crap-ass company, all be it 4 and a half years after I left.

Buy a BNIB used one ( or one damn close ) for a big discount, either here, TZ or WN. If you decide you don't like it, you can likely get out of the watch and only lose a few hundred, if any. Chances are you will become a junkie.

I bought a 1K Movado back in college. I didn't know watches well and thought that watch looked cool. It still sits in my safe doing nothing for me.

But you can't go wrong with a SS GMT Rolex. At 36yo, you've waited too long already! I'm 34yo, and I just got my first Rolex, and wish I had bought one 10 or 15 years ago. Prices have really gone up over the years. The GMT is an everyday, every occasion watch. You definately will get plenty of enjoyment for what you pay for it.

Amen to that! I wanted one from high school on and just kept putting it off because of the cost. Finally bought a pre-owned one when I was about in my early forties. Wore it for about 20 years and loved every day of it. Every time I looked at it I got a good feeling. Recently I've bought 3 new ones and I only regret not getting a new one sooner. Unless you're starving the cost will fade quickly and all you'll have left is the joy. Good luck!

This is SPOT on............I have only heard of people having remorse about the type of Rolex they bought, wishing they got the other one. Rolex is not the problem the problem is which bloody one

Consider it as a transfer of funds. In this current climate if you can buy a SS GMT IIc for RRP or less then go for it. IMO prices from Rolex are not about to go down.

If that mortgage isn't killing you, you sound like me. That's the only debt I carry. I own my cars, fattened up my pension plan & 457 and disposible income with kid grown up moved out....life is good and three years from retirement. Ah yes...I see my DD yellow on the horizon

I look back on the watches I bought on the way to owning a Rolex and think that if I had just dropped the cash then on what I really wanted I would have been ahead! Do it and enjoy!
