Can’t Believe I waited this long to buy a Rolex
While I started collecting watches about 10 years back, I bought a Rolex as my 10th or 11th watch only.
And I am kicking myself for having waited this long. Every time it is time to pull out my Rolex DSSD Deep Blue (I can’t believe I managed to land one without ANY premium straight from the dealer!), I can stop marveling at how comfortable it is, the dimensions are just perfect and how solid it feels! I am in LOVE with this watch! |

Your collection is sick and the box is an awesome touch, where did you buy it from?

I read an article somewhere that said that newbie watch collectors start with only extreme views (never a neutral view) about Rolex. Either they think it is the be all and end all of watches and nothing else out there matters or they hate it with their guts - thinking it’s a “lazy” choice or a I remember telling mates that “Rolex is for people with more money than taste” And only when I bought this, I realized how well engineered a Rolex is. What an idiot I was to not even consider a Rolex all these years. These days whenever anyone comes to me for advice I say “If you plan to buy just ONE watch, then it has GOT to be a Rolex” |

Ha ha!! That is a stonking 57.5 mm diameter watch! A special edition Montres de Aeronef watch released 4-5 years back using the legendary 5011K handwound movement. Story goes that this chronometer movement was the most accurate EVER tested by the observatory in Nauchatel until the 60’s when this annual competition used to run. And this movement was thought to be lost during the quartz crisis. Until one day, Zenith discovered a box of 400-odd movements in 2009-2010 and released a special limited edition. Based on the serial numbers on the COSC certificates (checked with a couple of other WUS, Watchprosite forum members) of old deck chronometers with this movement, the movements were indeed 40-50 year old movements!! Not wearable regularly - but definitely a collector’s piece!! |

Don’t even get me started on the sheer genius of engineering that is the Curta! Managed to snag one in beautiful working condition Curta II and every now and then I take it out to do some calculations (keep the engine running) and put it back. |

Nice collection for sure! Really dig that you’ve got a JSAR in there too. Respect!

Nice collection! Thx for sharing your learnings.
When I started collecting 4 years ago I had similar thoughts like you had 10 years ago. I even thought it was for people with safe mainstream taste, which did not dare to express themselves with more original designs. I still do not own one, but my view has changed a lot and my 6th watch will most probable be a Rolex. |

Thanks for the appreciation on the collection!
Collection was built with a lot of hard earned money and tough negotiations with the wife! :-) |

What I love about Rolex is what I love about Apple.
Attention to detail! The sheer attention to detail!! Everything is there for a reason - to perform the function it has to do. Everything just works! |

I was a similar Pretender to you and had a similarly diverse collection but you can only resist the Crown for so long.
