What A Morning

Every Sunday I teach a yoga class. The studio donates what they would pay me to the ASPCA.

This morning, just about to teach the class and moments before it started, a huge accident right in front of the studio.

I ran out to help and ended up bending a door the wrong way to help get a 9 year old girl out of the back of one of cars. She was bloody and screaming about her back. Her nose is definitely broken.

We brought her into the studio while her father cried. She cried nearly the whole time about how much pain she was in, and that she was scared. EMS took her to the hospital. Along with her brother (black eye) and father (broken foot).

This guy rear ended the car in front and got rear ended from behind. His little toyota Yaris was totaled.

There was a baby in one of the other cars.

Without question, this was from someone not paying attention. I’d bet someone was texting or doing something else that was distracting.

No more texting on the road for me fellas. Not that I normally do, but it happens from time to time. I never want to be responsible for something like that.

And now I’m having a screw driver. It’s been a hell of a morning.

I hope everyone end up ok.

Sorry you had to see that, hopefully they will all fully recover.

I will NEVER DUI or use a phone in the car, thousands of people get injured or die from this shit every year... and as salt in the wounds of the victims is that the penalty for it here is way to low. Makes me sick.

That was really nice of you to run out there and help.

+1 for no texting and driving, slowing down, and paying more attention.

Hope everyone ends up okay. My thoughts and prayers are with you and them.

I just graduated to “on the rocks”.

Goose bumps literally from thinking about it. I can’t imagine what that daddy is going through.

Crazy shit.

I’ve always been good in an emergency. I’m typically cool and calm. And I don’t care about any potential danger.

I actually got hit by a rubber necking bmw while running across the street with no shoes on.

It’s afterwards that I turn into a puddle.

As a former personal injury lawyer, I can tell you all that easily 50% of the crash cases I handled involved some form of distracted driving. Whether it be cell phone usage or dealing with kids in the back seat.

I honestly hope for the quick implementatiom of self driving technology. It would easily reduce the number of accidents by more than this 50% and could save thousands of lives every year. We say the biggest cause of accidents is the idiot behind the wheel.

No texting for me. Phone is purposefully out of reach, and Bluetooth available if I must make a call.

It’s illegal in the US as well, but that doesn’t stop anyone. I see it from my tall SUV perch all day every day.
The worst I’ve seen was a mother of 2, cell in hand, radio way too loud, knee on wheel, eating from a giant Lays bag in stop and go city traffic by the university with the 2 kids, ~4-8 yo, unsecured in the back crawling all around.
Mom of the year material there.
Nice that you helped out, though I’m not sure it’s wise to move people with potential back and neck injuries unless the car is on fire, etc.

See it all the time as well. Sometime I can’t help but think if we’re actually better off due to mobile phones....
