FDA confirms what I've always suspected - licorice is toxic

Confirms what I've known all along. Licorice is awful, and now apparently toxic as well.

Stick with the Snickers and Milky Way!

You would have to be into self inflicted punishment to eat black licorice for two weeks straight. No chance of it occurring to too many of us.

Wow. As a kid I was addicted to red and black licorice.

On vacation in Hawaii last month, the mother in law brought a bunch or twizzlers and I ate most of them.

So I had to sign up for a 12 step to kick the habit.

"Vacation" and "mother-in-law" are two words that don't usually belong in the same sentence.

I'd sleep with one eye open if she's still feeding you twizzlers. Just sayin

The mother in law is fine. It's the sisters in law that scare the bejesus out of me.

But I reached sainthood during that trip. Nobody died and I lasted the full week with the mother in law and her 3 daughters.

Which reminds me I can probably add another new watch for that week from hell.

As a true Dutchman I deeply love all kinds of black licorice, from the sweet ones to the unbearably salt ones, I love 'em.

Reminds me though, I haven't had some in a while, need to get me a bag of the salty ones tomorrow.

Last time I had licorice was with some salmon made by Heston Blumenthal, if only the kid Neil could see me now!

Just a guess (even though the actual seasonings are different), folks who liked black licorice as youngsters probably enjoy anise-flavored liquors like Ouzo and Sambuca.

If I were asked to describe the unique taste of black licorice, the thought of eating a badly burnt rubber tire immediately comes to mind.

The burnt rubber tire of the Ouzo?

I love black licorice. Even the salty varieties are good. It's hard to get good natural licorice in the US, so I buy a lot of it when I find it.

Guess I'll stick to better tasting toxins like dairy and gluten and those crazy mushrooms in my backyard that make you dream while you're awake.

If shrooms didn’t go well, definitely stay away from the peyote.

Always been intrigued by that one... I️ appreciate the journey; but the stomach issues really turn me off from mushrooms. I’ll melt away with Jimi Hendrix and the Doors any day though.
