You're just saying that because it was made from your avatar's fur.

This whole "WatchOut!!!" section of the board is like watching a car or train wreck... You know you should avert your eyes, but you keep looking... It has become my morning "chuckle" before I start my day.

I can't wait to hear the woman's response when you tell her it's fake. You just have to ask the story of how she got it... You know, her son's a rapper and needs the cash to finance his next album or something like that...

Cheers,
Corey

Actually, she claimed it was a gift from a record label her husband signed on with at one point. Apparently everyone in his "group" got one. Odd thing is she is totally ok with meeting at a secure location, having me open the watch, take pics, etc. But, when I did mention that is may be a fake.....well here...

HER: "His watch didn't come from that fugazy place. We don't know anybody that wears costume jewelry first of all and second of all... This is very offensive. Why would somebody even want a fake Rolex? #sad "

ME: "I'm not trying to offend. And I'm not even saying I'm 100% certain. But I have spoken with multiple contacts that have way more expertise than me. I'd still offer to open the watch for you and show you the inside. If it is indeed a replica, I would be happy show you the difference between it and a real one. "

HER: "I just interrupted his brother at this hour in a different time zone just to find out where he bought his watch from. He bought them for all of the musicians on the label and he gave me this link."

https://www.truefacet.com/rolex-pres...6mm-watch.html

ME: "That is an 18038 model, not a 218238 which is what you told me yours was. Definitely not what was in the pics you sent me."

Then she went into some talk about each number in the model signifies each specific modification. Which at that point I was like, ok whatever, but still offered to open it for her. We'll see where this goes. Doesn't seem like the typical scammer, but someone who genuinely thinks they have the real thing.

Fake or real, it's genuinely ugly.

Edit: unless you buy it in which case, "looks great".

This is starting to sound like an episode of "Empire". I wonder if her name is "Cookie".

Seriously, her story is missing something. I wonder, assuming part of her story is correct, if this "record" company gave out "fakes" telling everyone they were real. Her relationship with her husband may have go bad and now she wants sell his stuff. She may honestly think its real and is screwing her husband when she sells it.

Personally I would suggest to her, as you have already, based upon Rolex experts there is some question to it's authenticity and even if she wasn't to sell it to you, she should really take it to rolex and for moderate fee, she can get a document showing it's authentic. This money should easily be recovered in the sale of the watch if it's real.

If it's not real, assuming my thoughts about why she is selling may be right, she can then enjoy telling her husband how his record label pulled one over on him.

Cheers,
Corey

Exactly. It's a bit of a drive, and at this point I don't feel like making a trip only to uncover a fake. I probably wouldn't get any compensation for it either. I'm going to look up watchmakers in her area and see if I can convince her to at least go to one to get it authenticated.

I just suggested she go to a store near her. This was her reply.

"We know the owner at Castle and spent about $6,000.00 in that store. They are the ones that pulled the numbers from under the band the other day.. They're authenticated it already but will go back and ask them to call you on the spot. No problem."

I'm just not sure with this one.

I would only suggest she goes to Rolex and not a local watchmaker. I think that would be the only “result” she would accept if they tell her it’s fake.

Why does it have the Rolex engraved rehault, and a Tritium dial?

Some fakes have an engraved Rolex rehault. That’s why I love my milgauss, they can’t get that green crystal right but they seem to be getting a lot of other things close and because the dial and bezel are aftermarket, the watch really needs a professional to open it up and see what is inside. Oh and someone needs to look at those diamonds under a loupe to see if they are real or fake.

Who knows, maybe they did “bling” out a real watch. I don’t know enough about this stuff to say, but obviously something isn’t kosher here.

Ok, they were supposed to take it to a watchmaker local to them. And have him/her call me with the watch in hand. Of course, I never got a call. Here's her email this morning.

"It was authenticated yesterday but I wasn't there and he didn't have the email to call you. It's a Date just II and itbwss rebuilt to become a presidential. Call Castle and ask them about the watch, they will remember him"
