Submariner Ques

I want to buy my first Rolex...a date submariner, black face and black bezel. i would like to know everyone's thoughts on differing years. i am debating buying a 2008 brand new one, or saving some money with a 2006. is there a big difference in the two?

thanks

Welcome to TRF...

They have etched the word Rolex around the inside of the flange that supports the crystal from the inside...but beyond that..

You have to go back a long way to find any significant change in the Sub-date.

Great choice..........

I just bought a brand new M series sub ,I have had two 90s sub dates and a 1995 seadweller which i miss dearly. The new one is awesome, better bracelet, lumious material brighter, and rolex even engraves the crown on the inside of the sapphire.Sorry for the spelling just woke up....

I can't comment on the 2006 model but I own a 2008 Sub Date. Everything about it is perfection personified. The fit of the bracelet is comfortable and strong, visibility of the dial is first class, everything is smooth and classy. Buy one of those and you can't go wrong

No difference in either watch, take a look at both and if the price difference justifies the 2006 model, get it. Good luck,

Suppose the biggest significance since the introduction of the cal 3135 in the sub in 1989 has been the SEL bracelet. But in reality only very minor cosmetic changes like non lugs holes, case letter stamps, the most important bit the engine has not changed.

Not a huge changer but I like the inner ingraving quite a lot. Watches without it seem empty now. :)

I bought my Sub brand new about a year and a half ago. If I knew then what I know now, I would have bought a preowned sub from one of the frequent sellers on this site like Tempoking, ponycar350, stevemulholland 3. If you're the kind of guy who must be the first owner and can't have a scratch on the watch, by all means get a new one. If you plan to wear it every day and can tolerate a few scratches you could save yourself several hundred to a thousand dollars.

I would say that the 2006 Sub date will not save you a fortune
especially if the owner paid full retail.

It all depends if you are paying full retail plus tax
or... $5,150 ...which is the current price for a brand new
2008 16610 Sub
, a price often available right here at TRF.
