AP forged carbon 44 trade for sub

OK guys im going to ask this in here as opposed to the general section as most AP/Rolex guys look in here.....
Ive been offered a 2 year old AP forged carbon 44mm complete set as a trade for my 116618LN gold sub(no papers, about 4 years old etc............)

Now as much as i love my gold sub i have plenty more rolex sport models at home to choose from and the gold one never gets any wrist time.... mostly due to the fact im not game to walk the streets here with it on lol!

Ive had a AP roo safari previously and besides not finding it comfortable to wear it had to be sent back twice with movement problems

i do like the 44 more then the smaller roo and i love the forged carbon and ceramic.... but is it worth all the hype and am i gonna do my money on this?

what do we think of this as a trade?

I’d do it but I don’t know enough about the good dub values. If pretty close I’d pull the trigger for something you would wear

I love my Blue Subc but love the 44 too so can understand. The FC would not be my first choice, I'd go for the Ceramic, anthracite or new black dial, or new Ti.

Alternatively sell 3/4 SS instead, lot of repetition there.

id off load the datejusts and the 16610 but the rest im holding on to for now... the polar ive lent to dad and not concerned and the hulk my brother wears and again hes not giving it back any time soon
so out of the remainder i want to hold onto my kermit and gmt and the sd4k is pretty much my daily
which just leaves the gold sub sitting in the safe on the winder getting no love

The other factor is when i do wear it i find the weight uncomfortable hence i was liking the FC for its weight and the fact i can wear it without attracting too much attention

Yep...

As you said..."Now as much as i love my gold sub i have plenty more rolex sport models at home to choose from and the gold one never gets any wrist time"

You have lots of Rolex to scratch the itch...Pack up the Gold sub and try the 44FC

Straight trade? It's been a while since I've looked at FC prices, but I'd assume they are low to mid 20s, roughly what a 116618 complete is probably asking. Value wise I'd do that trade.

Agree with this view.

One consideration is that FC models seem to be hard to flip out of down the line...but you only live once and it may be fun to try the 44

I prefer the FC, but i agree with this. Be careful in trading a watch that is easier to sell for one that is harder to sell. If you don't like it or want to move it later its going to be more challenging. It probably wouldn't bother me enough to be a dealbreaker though

I would do that as well. FC 44 prices have been pretty stable to slightly rising since being discontinued. Of course, I am assuming the FC case is sharp and in good shape.

My sub isn’t a complete set... watch only so I’m taking that into consideration as well as being buttery soft gold that it is she’s got her fair share of scratches for the limited time I’ve worn it... it actually looks well worn on the pcl’s
The ap is mint and still has sharp edges and is a full set.
I get the resale isn’t as easy as a Rolex but a gold sub with no papers(random serial so no idea if it’s age either) is also going to be a awkward private sale...

I would do it. I had the FC before trading it for the CE. It's a great watch. Prices are pretty stable.

For the value, it seems like a better trade right now. Chrono has a 2013 LB listed at 21.9 and a used FC44 listed at 25 (seller doesn't list year, but is previously owned (1)).

For the value for the long run, I would think that a discontinued FC in good condition would also hold better than the LB without box/papers.

Personally I would make the trade, not for the winning value that I think/I am getting, but for the pure reason of my obsession with AP finishing and movement over Rolex's. The value would just seal the deal, especially since there is a lack of box/papers for the Rolex. But then again it would depend on whether you like and are comfortable with a 44 on your wrist. Good luck!

not yet.... its still a bit strange handing over a solid gold piece and walking out with a "plastic" watch on a rubber strap lol!
Somewhere in my mind its telling me its not right but for now im keeping that under control lol!!!!

I do miss the gold bling but i can actually wear this one to work and not raise any eyebrows... so i can actually get to enjoy wearing it which is more then i could with the gold sub

Bonus i just found out is this one is still under Manufacturer's warranty... which gives me a bit more piece of mind after the failure of my AP ROO Safari i used to have.....
