Tile Floor + Sapphire Crystal = Pain
Dropped my watch while changing at the gym
Now I know what they mean when they say sapphire resists scratches but shatters more easily than acrylic. As if the economy weren't enough to depress me....guess I'll be propping it up by dropping some cash at the RSC. Funny thing is I can't feel any edges on the cracks, must have shattered internally. And it's still keeping perfect time.... |

Oops and OUCH!! That does look bad. Sorry that had to happen to you, my friend. I'm afraid the RSC will insist on a full service in such cases, in the event some tiny fragments have entered the movement through the date window.
Good luck - JJ

Ouch, sorry to see that.
Personally I'd hack it now and take it to the vet.

Didn't know about the S -- do that put that in to show that it's a replacement?

Sorry to hear that. You should stop the movement just in case any fragments entered through the date window. Best of luck to you.

Oh man. Ouch.
I dropped my Platinum DD on a marble floor, face down. My life flashed before my eyes, it was slow motion... I screamed NOOOOO and attempted to dive for it. It landed and crashed, and I was afraid to look... I couldn't look. I got the courage to do it after a couple of seconds which seemed like hours... and luckily it wasn't broken. I can only imagine your heart ache. |

Pull the crown all the way out and stop the movement and have it checked out ASAP. Sorry to hear that happened.

Sorry to see that James - but you'll have a new one on there soon - probably expense you could have done without.
There is an interesting pattern to the cracks. It looks as if the watch landed so flat that the cyclops hit first, as the pressure cracks seem to emanate from beneath the now frosted magnifier.

Outch!!! It must have hurt or still hurting. Sorry about that.
I also wash my Sub in the shower at the gym. I must reconsider... Hope they change it quickly and you do not have to wait long. |

Hack it immediately! I did the same to an old Submariner, and the entire movement consumed bits of crystal. It was the never the same after repair.

I did stop the movement last night after seeing Eddie's post, so it probably only ran for a couple hours after the fall. Thanks for the heads up.

I know how you feel about the economy and having to spend money on repairs.
I always tend to rationalize when it comes to adversities, such as this. My usual reasoning is, it's only money. No one was hurt. In this case, it wasn't you, who got hurt. Accidents, do really happen. We learn by experience. Hope all turns out well with your GMT, James. Cheers. |

Ouch , that sucks - I broke the Crystal on my DD the same way a few years ago - Rolex made me replace the face and hands as well that were damaged by the glass .... I think the bill was around $1,900 .

Ooow! I'd had my Cartier Santos 100 two weeks when I dropped it and broke the sapphire Cartier puts on the crown. Two weeks old and it needed a full service because the crown had to be removed and replaced. I know the feeling of seeing a watch fly through the air in slow motion. On the bright side, Cartier, via Neiman Marcus, replaced the crown and performed the service at cost. Guess they felt sorry for the guy who dropped his nearly new watch.
My sympathy to everyone who submitted a pic on this thread. Cheers, Chris
