Advice Needed - Golf Cart Purchase
I have been studying up very hard, but I was hoping a few of the members have some info to help me out.
This cart will be used for cruising around the neighborhood, going back and forth to the pool, riding down to the fishing pond in the neighborhood, occasional beach trip, etc. I have narrowed it down to Yamaha (because I love everything Yamaha makes) and Club Car because the aluminum frame receives great reviews. I have ruled out E-Z-Go as the reviews are terrible. I need help deciding between electric and gas. Gas seems to have better reviews with the hills (neighborhood has several), but I will be spending $5-20 month for gas. Batteries have almost zero weekly/monthly cost, but when the batteries are gone it will cost me $600-700. I think I prefer purchasing $10 gas month vs the lump sum pricing of batteries, but I was hoping y'all have some more info to sway me!

i have no idea, but i never knew that was a thing until driving around in east Texas. There are all these golf cart dealerships like car lots all over the place and not a golf course to be found. Apparently they are like hoverboards for people with bad balance and non millennials. Its a big thing apparently and golf skills are not a requirement. I want one.

Definately Club Car over EZ Go. Had both and the CC was profoundly better. A good friend has a Yamaha and loves it. Gas tends to be easier maintenance wise but needs to be "warmed up" a touch to run well. Electric is great for jump and go and ease of use but the batteries do need replacement. We put in a bigger motor and batteries on our last cart and she flies...even up hills LOL

We’ve had E-Z Go at the dealership for many years. They are gas. Truthfully we’ve never had any issues at all and they are used HARD. Really hard. Salesman, technicians, and lot guys run around on them all day. They are on the move non stop. We even run them in the winter. We also had them lifted a couple of inches and put more aggressive tires on them. I’m not sure about Yamaha or Club Car. I’d go gas for sure. When we bought ours we considered electric and was told the batteries deteriorate quickly. When the batteries die you are done. I also think your cost of replacement batteries is way light. At the time we purchased ours, the cost of new batteries exceeded the cost of the cart itself. That’s why we choose gas.

Your choice on make and propulsion method but do yourself one favor. Get a 4 seat model with all 4 seats facing forward. You and your passengers with be thankful you did.

I use my club car the same way you plan to. It's electric and I'm going on 5 yrs with the same batteries. It's been great for us but we are pretty easy on it. The kids drive it around the hood and into the pool. They are easy to customize also. I would go electric.

from what I've seen in 'The Villages' (largest golf cart community in the world) both electric and gas perform equally well. My buddy has one of each, electric is quicker, quieter and all but zero maintenance. Yes you will have to replace the batteries eventually but there electric one is going on 7 years with zero issues .....

therefore I've just 'updated' your research ! seriously, if one pays attention to proper care and charging I don't think it's that far out of line. FWIW my wife got over eight years on her last car battery.......

Go Club Car and definitely electric! The sound of the gas motor takes so much away from the enjoyment of the nice quiet ride. Had a 1991 Club Car that I sold last year and it was still running .
Just purchased a 2015 Club Car and had the gear ratio changed so it goes 23-25 mph for a quick run out of the guard gate to grocery store, etc. And batteries last around 3-4 years if you use it on a regular basis. Always keep them topped off with distilled water. |
