Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying a pair of watches to give to my boys in 15 or so years. What would you buy (and not wear) if you were in my shoes?

I would buy to wear and then give them.

The watch my father wore means more to me than something that sat in a dark closet, forgotten about.

You asked for suggestions on what to give your sons in 15 years. Assuming they are 1 and 2 years old right now, I would think that sub dates are a good starting point. In my opinion, every kid to young adult should always know the time and date. However, if they are 15 now and you plan on gifting them watches in 15 years, maybe a gold sub or a daydate would be more thrilling.

To me, a worn watch would be more special. Just buying/giving them a watch would not be appreciated because it is not earned. A worn watch be more like an heirloom, or part of dad’s life.

I would wear them otherwise there is no attachment to their fathers watch. I got a watch to commemorate both of my son's births. They are for them and each will get theirs when they are grown, but they will also have memories of me wearing the watch(s). Otherwise its just a watch.

The other two have zero interest in watches...

I would purchase date subs. I would be careful to buy something that will still be in style in 15 years. Rolex Date Sub is the closest you get to a guarantee.

the correct answer is not a sub. Its a 5711. Get on the waitlist now and they can pick them up themselves when grown. Easy.

I bought a GMT when my son was born. It is his watch and I wear it all the time. It will mean more to him when he eventually gets it.

that was the watch i chose for my first son too when he was born and i also wear it a lot.
