Will Rolex ever go bankrupt?

Will Rolex goes bankrupt in this economic crisis or depression? What you think Rolex watch will worth if the company close down?

The only time they would go bankrupt would be when they make virtually no sales worldwide. This could only happen if there was a worldwide depression.....and that has pretty small chance of happening.
There will always be somewhere or someone in the world buying watches. After all, they are a luxury good....and there are a LOT of rich people out there.

No chance - unless they've somehow mis-managed their finances...

Sales is not an issue for Rolex because they make their ADs buy their yearly production. NOW if you're asking if some Rolex ADs might go BK.............

It was a lot worse for most of the Swiss watch industry back in the 1970s when the Japanese Quartz revolution started. Many firms disappeared altogether some amalgamated to survive,But Rolex stuck to what they are best at making mechanical watches they survived that, and they can and will survive this depression.

They also introduced what they are worst at, the cellini and the oysterquartz.

To answer the OP's question, No, I think Rolex has very deep pockets and will be fine. They have the resources to weather almost any economic problem.

As to your comment about the world's financial crisis affecting only the "middle class", that is a ridiculous statement without any thought to facts. How can you think this economic climate doesn't affect everyone? I know executives with large salaries who are upper class and now find themselves unemployed, small businesses closing their doors every day, large corporations begging the governments to help keep them afloat, lower class jobs are drying up faster than water in a desert because companies aren't hiring and are cutting low paying jobs to control costs.

Sorry friend but everyone is being affected, not just the middle class. While I'm not an economic professor, this just seems like a simple observation.

No. Not because of the crisis.
But maybe if they keep on designing things like YMII, DSSD, WGSub...
Seriously, the seem to be trying to move more up-market and less mass-production.
Sorry, but with those new models, I won´t be on any list

While this topic is out there. Does anyone know what Rolex's corporate/company status is ???? I was told by someone that its actually held in a Trust. Thats the reasoning for all the international charity and sponsorship of science, Research and conservation programs. Can someone shed some light on this ??

Rolex is not the sort of company that is facing bankruptcy, because it is not being swallowed by legacy costs like Detroit (In Switzerland, retirement is heavily subsidized by government), and Rolex is not heavily leveraged, like the financial industry players that toppled.

Rolex is not beholden to shareholders and is not publicly traded. If I had to bet, I would bet that it is sitting on a substantial cash cushion, and will not have to alter its business at all.

At worst, it may have to slash R&D, production, and staff at its service facilities, but that probably won't happen short of a Great Depression scenario.

If Rolex somehow ceased to be able to operate independently, the brand is extremely valuable, so it would probably be bought up by some luxury conglomerate or another.

Further, in the 70s, when the Swiss watch industry faltered, it got government bailout help from the Swiss government (I am not sure if Rolex was a recipient of government aid, but the Swatch conglomerate emerged from government stewardship).

The only thing I think that could really cause Rolex to cease to exist would be a decisive global trend against mechanical and luxury watches.

Not an impossibility, of course - but highly unlikely. Rolex has a number of extraordinarily valuable assets. The name alone is worth billions.

I don't think Rolex will go down. Hopefully this downturn is going to be aided by governments all around the world who are coordinating their policies. Has there been a lowering of demand lately for Rolex? Maybe, I haven't heard. But I do feel that Rolex has done an excellent job by making sure that they innovate carefully.

I voted NO, it's kinda joke that Rolex would even come close to losing money let alone go bankrupt.

Wasn't Rolex SA valued at 5 Billion, my guess is they have a portion of that in land value, and good portion in liquid cash.

Here' proof,

interesting question, any company that does not get it prices right is going to struggle in the present economic climate, even Rolex cannot be bullet proof. It will be interesting to see if prices are adjusted if the recession is long lasting
