Icon20 Air-King

Is there something wrong with this watch. Although I have not been a member long, not once have I ever "seen" anyone discussing the Air-King, or do i "see" it as part of anyone's collection. Just curious....thx!

It's a fine watch. It's just generally considered entry-level. Most will upgrade to something different sooner or later. So the folks that congregate here, have already done that.

A black-dial AK was my first Rolex purchase in 1988. I don't wear it often, but I'll never sell it. It's a really good looking wristwatch.

Cheers,

Chris

I love my Air King. I recently had the bracelet swapped out with a Rolex strap and buckle. It looks real good -- a lot more masculine than the Cellini. I'm going to be wearing it as my dress watch instead of my daytona from now on.

I have to say it a second time: That's a handsome watch and strap. The black dial and the old-timey stick indices are really getting to me. At the same time, this example doesn't leap out at you as a Rolex and might be considered as more of a "stealth" Rolex than the Polar Expy II or the Expy I.

The Air-King is a beautiful watch. It doesn't get the respect it deserves in the age of increasing case sizes, numerous hands, and multiple crowns jetting out left and right. I think the GMT crowds it out of the aviator niche to some extent as well.

Chris [Chenney],

That black dial and crocodile strap are a stunning combination. Maybe I'll wear mine more often after I order that strap!

Thanks for the pics and information.

Cheers,

Chris

Art (Art161) referred to me the SF RSC and they let me order it through them. The strap was $380 and the buckle was $120 -- a well spent $500 upgrade.

I've had an Air King for 18 years now and I enjoy wearing it. The AK gets bashed a lot because it is the least expensive model in the current line up, but it's a damn fine watch.

I have one and love it. Basic model with Jubilee bracelet in SS with silver face and sticks. A classic design.

my first Rolex was a 1960s air King stainless steel Jubilee with a silver dial I ended up giving it my father-in-law.

Honestly I think the AK is a beautiful and under-rated watch that would benefit greatly from having a 40mm dial.

We are on vacation in Napa, California and just picked up this Z series for the wifey. Here's a wifey wrist shot at the AD.

The AK is one of the most underated watches in the line up IMO, pretty cool history behind the watch as well.
