probably not gonna fly around around here.
I'm pretty indifferent about nick names, but if I had to contribute, I'd say by the logic of your choice, you could nickname any watch with a black dial "black panther", so why this one? Also the super hero assigned to this watch would have to be one that flies, IMO. |

If anything, I'd call it the Black Sky (Netflix Marvel fans will know).

Don't know that reference, but it makes sense by the name alone. Even Padi might like that one. haha jk, Padi will only like "The Rolex Sky-Dweller Reference 326934".

Why people insist on bestowing dumb nicknames on watches is beyond my comprehension

Sorry! Not a fan of nick names or pet names for watches. I don’t name my shoes so why should I name my watches?

Nicknames never annoyed me but they need some context and are always things that happen by word of mouth. Plus the random black panther vs. black widow vs. spotted black leopard (the markers are white) vs. black ____insert predatory animal or superhero seems more off base than most of them. That said, great watch.

The Rolex inventory of past and present timepieces seems ripe for even more nicknames based on the celebrities that wear them (i.e. the Clapton, the Tyler, the Mayer, the Sheeran, the Pitt et al). There is no end in sight.
From the standpoint of comic characters (along with its second tier status in the Rolex line-up), Tudor could come up with a Robin sports model (the Dick Grayson) and perhaps a dressier version paying homage to the butler Alfred. On thing's for certain, if any more Rolexes are to be named in tribute to the 'Dark Knight', Rolex is going to have to do something about improving its lume. |

I am generally an easy going guy, but when a relatively well known watch Youtuber refers to his Submariner as a Subby/Subbie I want to soil my britches. The problem is some of this caught on and now people are talking about a Hammie instead of a Hamilton, Flighty instead of a flightmaster etc.

I’m really over all the stupid nicknames, superhero nonsense, etc. I realize I’m in the minority and probably just acting old and grouchy.
Carry on... |

Nicknames are ok for me. Kinda like I nickname my cars, however I don’t refer to those nicknames in public. Kinda childish and kinda embarrassing. Every time I hear someone say Batman when I wear mine, I get severely annoyed.

We could call it Batman to introduce a virus in the nickname system and hopefully the whole thing would implode.
