Blemish on new Rolex Day-Date

Hello,

I bought a new Rolex 118238 Day-Date on eBay from a known and trusted seller 10 days ago. Today I discovered two blemishes on the dial, one is a small hair stuck inside the paint on the word “Swiss” at 6 o’clock. The other blemish is on the minute track at 5 o’clock where there is a tiny glob of paint on the track marking it fatter than the rest.
I contacted Rolex service center, and they said it would have to be send to them for repair, with a 3-4 month wait.
At this point I would rather just return the watch, would other people on this thread do the same, or different?
Thank you.

Does Ebay help with the return if the seller might not accept to take it back?

Here is a picture of the two spots.
It’s hard to photograph it due to the reflection on the crystal.

He means those are some effed-up blemishes.

If the deal was good and you can not see it and you love the watch, ask for him to fix it. Ask for a price concession. Put the loop up and wear your watch.

Almost all dials will have some minor imperfections if seen from a loupe and god forbid a microscope. Enjoy the watch if it's not visible from naked eye.

Was the blemish visible in the original sale ad?

As you bought it on ebay you clearly got it for a good price. If you are otherwise happy, I'd ask for Ask for a small refund to cover the imperfection.

Its a 36mm watch - those imperfections will be microscipic, so see if you can live with it - if not send it in for warranty repair and the RSC will fix it.

This is why you never take a loupe to any watch.

You WILL find something wrong if looking hard enough.

Boom! OCD will drive you to be an unhappy person looking for perfection where it doesn't exist.

I wouldn’t call it OCD. My two other Stainless Rolex Watches have perfect dials. This one has two blemishes on the dial. I’m not ok with paying this kind of money and then receive a blemished dial.

These 'blemishes' are well within what is tolerated.

After servicing a watch we watchmakers need to look at the watch from 30cm away for about half a minute, can't see a spot then? Then it's good to go.
Sure we take a loupe as well, but what you show is really pushing it, I bet you can't see it with your naked eye.

I've louped and louped the hell out of my Grand Seiko Hi-Beat GMTs and still haven't found anything wrong with them. But it is true that one should prepare themselves for some disappointment louping a Rolex. It's best not to do it.

Exactly my point, no blemishes on other ones, and if you find one this should be addressed. We are not talking about a $500 Watch in the end.

I agree with you. One doesn't need a loupe to see the dial imperfections on that DD. For 23K I don't want any manufacturing dial imperfections visible to the naked eye.

If it were me, I'd return it without a 2nd thought.

I don’t agree with having to just accept a flaw on a watch at this price point.

i don't think it's a big deal but i'm sure it's all you see.

i bet they give you a 3 day window to do a return and it's now a week past.

ok it's on the dial, hard to do that yourself but - might be more problems than it's worth.

Yes I didn’t pay retail for it, but 23K aren’t cheap either. I guess I expected not these imperfections on such a watch.
My sea-dweller 4000 has nothing like this, and costs one third.

I agree, this is totally unacceptable. At this price point you're paying for some superior quality control allegedly, and the "passion for perfection" and all their marketing b*******.

My $100 fossil watch has a perfect dial with no blemishes.

Unacceptable, return for refund.

At 23k for a 118238,those blemishes no matter how small would be the only thing I noticed which would make me unhappy. Now, if we were talking about a 1601, or a 16013 then I could see overlooking the blemishes, but this isn't the case.

Is it possible to contact the seller, and see if he is willing to cover the cost of repair? If not, then I would consider returning the watch and getting a full refund.

When I look closely on the pictures on eBay, one can see the two spots. So I didn’t cause them.

Did you pay 23k? For that money you could have done a heck of a lot better on the TRF classifieds, IMO.

Two words that don't go together...eBay and Rolex.
